There's only three people who have my house phone number: Robin, Chrissy, and Chance.
So how the fuck did Eddie get it?
I have no idea, but that night we stayed on the phone for about two hours until he'd calm down enough to tell me.
"Eddie what are you calling for in the middle of the night?" I said as soon as he said his name.
"She- she- she's dead! I- I- just left her there. I didn't know what to do! I'm so so sorry! Please- I didn't do this I swear!" He kept rambling and crying.
My first impression was maybe he was high as hell and was just having a really bad trip, but after some time he said, "I found your number in her sweater pocket, you're the only one I've got right now."
Sweater pocket? Sweater pocket... CHRISSY.
"WHO EDDIE? Who is dead?" I was praying he wasn't talking about who I thought he was talking about.
"You have to promise to believe me! I'm not lying, I swear to God, I swear to all the gods!" He whispered and still cried.
"I promise." I teared up.
"It was... It was Chrissy, she came over to buy drugs and all of a sudden the lights started flashing and she started floating midair-" He was still stuttering and shaking over the phone.
"Can you give me a second, please?" I said quietly into the phone.
It was silent so I assumed that was Eddie putting the phone down, I did the same. Throughout this whole time I was sitting on my bed talking to him and trying to calm him down. Now I needed to calm down. I put my face into a pillow and sobbed so intensely, I believed Eddie, but I wish I didn't, I wish I could've apologized to her when I had the chance. I wish I could have told her my feelings when I had the chance. I wish I could turn back time.
"Hey, Kat? You there?" I heard a faraway voice say through the phone.
"Yeah," I sniffled and wiped my tears, "I'm here."
"I really can't handle being alone right now." His voice cracked.
"I'll be over as soon as possible. Where are you?" I asked.
"I'm at Reefer Ricks. It's the brown lake house out by Lover's Lake. You sure you're okay to come over?"
"I'm okay, I'll be there. I know a shortcut through the power lines. Do not call back here, okay?"
"Thank you, Kat." He let out a breath of relief.
We hung up and I started changing into my sneaking out clothes. I did that sometimes. I packed a bag of clothes just in case and through in some other items. Before leaving I left a note on the fridge saying, "left to robin's, won't be back for dinner" giving me at least a day away without question.
I grabbed my bike from the side of the house and headed for the woods.
