I guess we didn't think about the consequences of this smoke session, but there were quite a few.

For starters, we completely forgot that we were supposed to be laying low and eventually made our way back inside the house where Eddie found Reefer Rick's stereo. We played music pretty loudly with no regard for the neighbors and danced around the living room until we felt dizzy. Eddie's a pretty bad dancer when he's high, he looks more like a dog chasing its tail, but I was no better. We played tag around the house and eventually ran into each other and fell onto the rug. Him being on top of me from the fall made me blush, but I was already flushed from the high so that was a good cover. We both laid on the floor looking up at the ceiling and caught our breath.

"I'm guessing you've never smoked weed before?" Eddie smiled.

"You might be right." I rolled my eyes and rubbed my face.

"How do you feel?"

"Better than ever!" I turned on my side to face him. "And how do you feel?"

"Definitely better now that you're here with me. Getting high alone can be boring. You're actually more fun then you let on, Adams." He still faced the ceiling, but looked over temporarily to see my reaction.

His red eyes connected with mine and it was hard to hold back a smile from looking at him in this state, he was less on edge and more himself than ever. It was like we had known each other our whole lives in this one moment. After a long while, we ended up being very hungry, we ate the rest of the snacks that Dustin and Steve brought us earlier that morning.

As Eddie munched on more cereal and soda he spoke, "Hey, can I ask you a question?"

"Yeah what's up?" I said curiously.

"Are you happy? Like really, truly happy? Not just the mask you put on for show, but you, the real you."

This made me think, I hadn't really asked myself this question in a while. My brother made me happy, Robin made me happy, Chrissy made me happy, but the mask... what mask? Oh. I think I know what he's talking about. "You mean Chance, don't you?" Damn it weed really knocked down my filter.

"I didn't say it, you did."

"Well, I'll be honest with you. No... I'm not really happy, at least not as much as I could be. Chance is more of a... placeholder-"

"A pawn, if you will." He smirked.

"P-pawn? What? No!" I laughed nervously.

"Kat, I'm not stupid. I can tell, even from a distance, that you're not like those guys. You're not dumb like the cheerleaders, you're not entitled like the athletes, you actually care for other people. You just want people to see you, to hear you, and if that means dating a super hot basketball player, then so be it." He paused, "So? Did I guess right."

"Right on the money. How are you able to read me so well?" I put my face into my palms from embarrassment.

"I see a little bit of myself in you. You're not close minded like everyone else in this god-forsaken town, you want to see change, you want to spread love."

"I'm a liar though. I feel bad for taking advantage of Chance and lying to Chrissy, I don't deserve to be happy anyways."

"You're not a bad person, Kat. Trust me, I know what bad people look like. You could never hurt somebody, even if you wanted to..." He corrected his sentence, "emotionally, 'cause I'd bet money on you in a fist fight." He smiled and got up, heading to the back steps. I followed behind him "So what are your thoughts on all this magic-demon-monster shit?" He asked me nonchalantly.
