Bittersweet.

New York city Summer of 2016

I woke up with the sun shining in my eyes my head was pounding I had the worst hangover from last night. I don't recall much from last night I just remember my best friend Joselyn calling me and telling me I needed to go out in order to get over my recent breakup and so I did just that. I also asked my sister Vivi to go with us because I felt she needed to go out too.
The last thing I remember is Joselyn and Vivi going to the restroom at that point I had already had 3 shots and a cosmo after that my memory got fuzzy.

I checked the time and it was 9:17am I groaned as I realized it was Monday and my shift had already started at 8:00am panicked I reached to my bedside table and grabbed my phone I quickly called my manager hoping she wouldn't fire me for not calling in earlier.

"Where the fuck are you?"

"I'm so sorry I slept in can I take the day off?"

"I'll do you a favor and let you take the rest of your life off! You're fired."

She hung up, I sighed and laid back down not caring much about getting fired because the pay was horrible.I pick my phone back up and realize I have a message from a unknown number

*Hey it's Jessica from the bar*

I try remembering a Jessica but my memories were all fuzzy and I had no memory of talking to a Jessica or anyone at all except Joselyn and Vivi I ignored the message and got up from my bed and called Joselyn

"Jackie! wasn't last night great!?" she asked in a excited voice

"If i'm being honest i don't remember half of the night and because of last night I no longer have a job"

"WHAT did you sleep in??"

"Yep"

"I actually cant believe you, hey i'm gonna be on my lunch break in 30 minutes wanna meet up for coffee so we can talk?"

"I guess, it's not like I have shift today anyway"

"Okay i'll see you in a bit!"

I hung up and put my phone down I grabbed some jeans that were sitting on a chair and a sweatshirt from my closet. I put some shoes on and just twisted my hair up and into a clip. I didn't wanna do my makeup so I just brushed my teeth washed the crusty mascara off from last night and grabbed my things to leave the house.

I had to walk to the cafe since I didn't have a car of my own and the bus would take too long. Up until a week ago whenever I needed a ride I could just call my ex (boyfriend at the time) but I can't do that anymore so walking it is. I arrived at the cafe fast as it wasn't too far from my apartment I walked in and picked a table to sit at and waited for Joselyn to arrive.

I look to the door and see Joselyn walk in with a big smile

"Hi!"

"Hey"

"Ugh come on I know you lost your job but don't be all killing the mood"

"Ive lost two things this month my boyfriend and now my job i'm actually going insane"

"Did you order your coffee yet?"

"Yeah I ordered for you too I got your usual order"

"Aw you know me so well, You should stop being so sad especially after you spent your whole night talking to that cute girl at the bar"

"What girl?"

"ARE YOU SERIOUS YOU DONT REMEMBER?"

"Keep your voice down we are in a cafe!"

"I'm sorry i'm sorry but how the hell do you not remember? You basically ditched me and vivi to spend all night talking to her i'm pretty sure you even said you gave her your number"

"I seriously don't remember this you're crazy"

I start REALLY trying to think back to what happened last night then I remembered the message I got this morning

"Omg.. this morning I got a message saying hey it's Jessica from the bar"

"YES THATS HER!"

"I didn't reply cause I thought it was wrong number! I mean i'm not gonna answer either way I have no idea who this girl is"

"Why not!! You two obviously connected last night I think you should text her since she's clearly interested in you"

"Yeah no i'm not going start talking to a stranger I met at a bar"

"You are so boring she could literally be your soulmate"

"You also said that about my last boyfriend look how that turned out"

"Whatever omg you need to try new things"

"Let's talk about something else i'm over this"

We talked for a while before Joselyn had to get back to work. On the walk back home I couldn't help but keep thinking about this girl and why I didn't remember talking to her when Joselyn said we talked all night. How much did I have to drink? I kept thinking about the what ifs, what if i text her and she is my soulmate?, what if she's a creepy and murders me?, what if we turn out to be really good friends? after all I could use a few new friends in the city. When I got home I realized it was all nonsense and I wasn't gonna reply to her I told myself to get over it and forget it and continue with my life.
