Batman jumped out of the Batmobile as soon as it reached the Batcave. He had a little boy in his arms, whose eyes were as wide as dinner plates.

Bruce pulled down his cowl as the boy whimpered. Why did he bring him here?!

"I'm scared" The pale boy's voice came out as a whisper.

Out of instinct, Bruce rubbed soothing circles on the boy's back as he walked to a table in the cave. He really had no idea what he was doing.

He sat the boy on the table and went away to get something to get the make up off of the boy's face. He came back with some cotton cloth and some water.

The boy was carefully watching every movement Bruce made. Bruce started to wipe the little boy's face. "What's your name?", Bruce asked, not sure if he was doing the right thing.

"Jack"

"Hm-hm. Do you have somewhere to go?" Bruce asked, already knowing the answer.

The boy slowly shook his head. Bruce sighed.

He did rest of the cleaning in silence. Jack flinched occassionally when Bruce touched some of the bruises on his face. Bruce vaguely wondered how the boy got all those purple marks on his face.

After the boy's face was clean, Bruce thought about giving him a bath. That made Bruce panic. What was he gonna tell Alfred? That The Joker accidentally turned into a kid while trying to kill him and he brought him home? No way Alfred was going to approve this.

He noticed the little boy staring wide eyed at him and soon decided to take him upstairs anyway.

"Do you know how old you are?" Bruce asked Jack as he carried him through the hallways of the manor.

The boy, who was fascinately watching the huge portraits adoring the walls of the manor, jumped at the sudden question.

Bruce wondered why the boy was so scared. He is in a strangely big place, held by a total stranger. Why shouldn't he be scared?

After processing the question he was asked, Jack hummed and held up his fingers. He started to count "one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight.... Nine" He held up nine fingers on Bruce's face and smiled genuinely.

Bruce couldn't help but smile back. He has never seen the Joker like this. Actually, he couldn't even believe this innocent little boy would one day grow up to be the deadliest villain ever. His train of thoughts were interrupted when a familiar British voice spoke. "Sir?"

Bruce blinked as Jack snuggled even closer to his chest at the presence of a new person.

"Alfred, we need to talk"
