Soft yellow light filtered through the curtains and danced throughout the living room of the boat house. You were slowly gaining consciousness, although your body and mind was fighting against it. Those hours of sleep were the most peaceful you'd had in years.

Eddie's chest ended up being used as your pillow, and careful not to wake him you slowly lifted your head to look at him. He was still asleep, eyes closed and lashes fanning across his cheeks. He looked so serene and-

"Good morning." His morning voice was deeper, more husky and raw than his normal tone, but retained its cheerfulness.

"Morning," you replied with a soft smile. "Did you sleep well?"

"Thanks to you I did. I might need you to sleep with me every night if it means I'll sleep as good as I did last night." He smirked at you with half-open eyelids. It had been less than five minutes since he woke up and he was already flirting with you.

You rolled your eyes playfully and tried to raise up but Eddie's arms tightened around you. "Can we stay like this? Just for a few more minutes?" He looked at you, pleading with puppy dog eyes that you just couldn't resist.

"...okay," you agreed. You rested your head on his chest again, soaking in the warmth of his body through his shirt. Despite everything going on in Hawkins, you felt safe. Eddie made you feel safe. You could stay in his arms forever; you wanted to stay in his arms forever, but you had to get home. Chrissy's funeral was in just a few hours. That meant you would have to leave Eddie.

A heavy sigh left your lips, causing Eddie to stir. He too knew that it wasn't going to last. Even if you believed that he didn't kill Chrissy, that didn't mean that the rest of the town didn't. In their eyes he was still a satanic killer up to no good. He couldn't give up though. He had to hold onto the hope that their minds would change and he would be a free man once more, for you.

"I have to go soon," you mumbled into his chest.

"I know," he said quietly. Eddie gave you one last squeeze before you started to get up and collect your things. He just sat there on the couch watching you grab the things you were going to take back home and stuff them in your backpack. You were trying to move as slow as possible to extend your time together. You would come back. You were going to see Eddie again soon. Those thoughts were the only things that lifted your spirits, if only a little.

Once you had finished gathering your belongings you walked up to the brunette, who sat there pouting. It was actually quite cute if you didn't think of the circumstances.

"Eddie," you prompted. "I'll come back, okay?"

"Okay," he said, looking up at you. He finally stood up and escorted you to the front door. You both stood there before he reached out and enclosed you in a hug. You wrapped your arms around his neck and returned the embrace. Eddie held onto you for as long as possible, before finally releasing you.

You smiled at him, "Don't do anything reckless, okay?"

"I won't. Only because you told me not to," he said, returning your smile.

"Bye Eddie."

"Bye y/n." He waved while you walked to your bicycle and began to ride back to town.

Almost an hour later your forehead was glistening with sweat and your calves were burning but you had arrived home. You discarded your yellow bike in the garage, up against the brick wall. When you walked into the house you slid your shoes off on the welcome mat in the kitchen. In the living room you could see your mother and father watching the television.

Hearing the door shut your mom turned around, a wave of relief going over her features. "Oh y/n I was so worried!"

"I'm okay, I spent the night at a friend's house," you lied. There was no reason to make her even more nervous than she already was.
