Chapter 3

Ibelin, fearing that she may be too loud, hurriedly checked to see if Ether woke up from the noise

Ether tossed and turn for a while but soon buried his head on the soft pillow and made no move after.

He might wake up if we talk here.

Ibelin beckoned the maid to follow her outside.

As I walked near the stairs a little away from the bedroom, the maid approached whilst shivering.

How terrible was Ibelin's usual behavior for you to be that scared?

"What's your name?"

Come to think of it, I didn't even know her name until now.

My doctor provided me a convenient excuse, namely amnesia, so I have no qualms asking questions like this.

"It's Tammy."

"Okay, Tammy. How long have you been waiting on me?"

"It has been a month now."

"What about the maids from before?"

"Everyone is gone except for me."

"Are you saying they were kicked out?"

Tammy hesitated.

"You can be honest. It's because I don't remember anything and it's making me uncomfortable."

"Ye-yes, the-they... were kicked out..."

"Why?"

"They went against the will of the Madam."

I somehow expected it, so I wasn't really that surprised.                                                                              

"How many maids have quit like that?"

"A-a... a lot..."

"How long have you been working here?"

"I have worked here since I was 14 years old, and this will be my 6th year."

She was quite the veteran. It made sense that she was assigned to be the exclusive maid of Ibelin.

It sort of gave me an idea how many maids have been replaced to be my lady-in-waiting.

Ether was five years old, so Ibelin would have been married earlier than that.

Ibelin wasn't mentioned much in the novel, so it was a little frustrating to dig some information this way.

Come to think of it, I was also curious about the Grand Duke whom Ibelin was married to.

In the novel, Grand Duke Ether Lekach's character was very close to my type, so I wonder if he resembles his father.

My appearance in the mirror is beautiful, but it was very different from Ether.

Black hair and black eyes.

It was said that Ether was born with the color of the devil but it was a strange color that attracted people. Ibelin on the other hand, had a dull complexion and long flowing hair– close to the color of oatmeal, so it looked soft. She also has a firm mouth and tilted eyes that looked stubbornly.

"What about the Grand Duke?" 

Ibelin thought and eventually asked, "He-he... went to the Forest of Mist."
