Chapter 2

"Ether, it's all my fault. You didn't do anything wrong. It's not true that you're the son of a devil. You don't deserve to be sick. I won't say that anymore and I'm not going to hurt you..."

I actually wanted to say 'I don't want you to be afraid' but that's just my greed.

"I'll go out instead, so just stay here and get some rest."

In the end, Ibelin decided to just walk out of this awkward situation.

"Pl-Please wait...!"

Ether urgently grabbed the hem of Ibelin's clothes.

After realizing what he had done, he quickly let go.

"What's wrong?"

Ether, while looking down, just shook his head without saying a word.

Ibelin agonized over the fact that this little gesture reminded her of a bird that buries its head on the sand to hide from shame.

I don't know if I'm suppose to approach him and give him a hug or to just leave him alone for now?

"Ether, do you want mommy to go out?"

In the end, she chose to ask Ether rather than make her own assumptions.

"Or do you want me to stay here?"

Ether trembled a little, but said nothing.

"I'll do what Ether tells me to do."

Ether was still silent.

Ibelin just stood still and waited. How long is he going to stay like that? But then Ether looked up carefully.

When their eyes met, he bowed his head again, but soon glanced and looked at Ibelin.

Ibelin wondered if it's okay for Ether to be doing that right now since he still has a fever.

I think you should lie down and sleep comfortably.

I wonder if the medicine is ineffective since you had trouble sleeping. I think I should call the doctor.

It was then...

"Pl-Please... Pl-Please don't leave..."

Ether cried and whispered in a small voice.

Ibelin turned around and looked at Ether. She was at a loss for words by what he said.

Without hesitation, Ibelin walked up to where Ether is and held him in her arms.

Ether hugged her weakly.

His temperature is a little warmer, I think he still has a fever.

"I was trying to call a doctor because I think you're sick."

"Uh huh...."

Ether rubbed his forehead against Ibelin's shoulder and took a breath.

"I-Im okay."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes."

"Okay. Then I'll stay with you so let's sleep a little longer."

Ibelin carefully lied down in bed with Ether.

The sound of Ether swallowing his saliva could be heard clearly.
