Won't Be a Coincidence

it didn't take long for him to finish his almond tofu, only a few minutes after you finished your favorite food. a little too fast considering how well he hid his hunger.

he was really starving, huh?

realizing that he had stood up from his swing, you quickly whip your head in the other direction. just in case he'd realize you were staring at him.

you couldn't help but feel a little disappointed that he'd leave right after finishing his food. it would be nice if he stayed with you longer.

just as you thought Xiao was going to leave, he walked in your direction and stopped a few steps away from you.

you looked up, staring at his eyes as he reached out his hand to you. in pure confusion, you put your hand on his as you couldn't think of anything else.

"not that, I meant your food packaging. I'll throw it away for you"

realizing you had just embarrassed yourself, you quickly retracted your hand and handed him the damned thing in your other hand.

on the other hand, Xiao could feel his face heating up from the physical contact. not wanting to let you see his blushing face, he wasted no time heading to the trash can.

knowing that he isn't calm yet, his thoughts raced to think of a way to not go back to his swings where you can fully see him just yet.

settling on something, he shouted an, "I'm going to the store. I'll get us some water"

your heartbeat calmed down as you watched him walking away, exiting the park towards the convenience store in a hurry.

the moon wasn't shining fully that night. hence, letting the street lights highlight his messy teal hair and tattoos.

you couldn't put into words the things he made you feel. was it comfort or familiarity, it's hard to explain. yet now that you're looking at him, you just know he's gorgeous.

sitting there in silence, you waited for him to come back as your mind kept replaying the sight of him to distract yourself from the embarrassment.

noticing his figure entering the park with two water bottles in hand, your eyes lit up as a smile effortlessly made its way into your face.

sitting down, Xiao handed you the one in his right hand as the other one has a visibly lesser amount before swinging as he always does.

his eyes closed as it seems like he enjoys the swings more than you now. you started swinging yourself, joining him enjoying the coolness of the midnight wind.

"you know, by now I'd go as far as to call you a friend of mine. but actually, I don't know anything about you" you told him blatantly.

not giving it a second thought, Xiao quickly answered you, "what do you wanna know?"

"well, a lot. your age, interests, friends, just about things friends would know"

you talked a lot of things with him as if nothing happened. it wouldn't be a lie to say there were no more boring nights sitting in silence when he was with you.

times passed before you could even realize it. your alarm rang making you hop off from your swing in reflex. before you could bid him goodbye, he asked you something that made you hope.

"Will you be here again tomorrow?"

with a smile, you answered him, "of course"

and with that, you went home.
