Follow Your Heart, They Say

Zhongli let out a deep sigh as he gently laid his back on his couch, closing his eyes in an attempt to process whatever had just happened.

failing to, his eyes opened just as quickly as they closed. he was almost immediately greeted with his roommate's questioning stares.

"good evening, Xiao. did you have a good sleep?" Zhongli turned his head to watch as Xiao walked closer to him, taking a seat just where you were seated.

not answering his question, Xiao sat there in silence with Zhongli, hesitant to meddle in whatever siblings quarrel you and your brother had.

before long, Xiao finally opened his mouth. "What was the whole fight about?"

"well, how much did you hear? I'll explain it all to you, after all, I think you deserve to know too"

"I could only hear the part where y/n said she hated you. Is she someone from your past?" Xiao asked carefully, only knowing so little of his best friend's past.

putting some thought into it, Zhongli was left silent for a while before he could answer it,

"you can say, she's my sister"

Xiao's eyes widened in shock upon hearing those words. "you never told me you have a sister" he responded, urging Zhongli to explain more of it.

"Well, we were never really that close, I suppose. She was just someone who was there in my childhood and teenage years," Zhongli started, reminiscing about his early years.

Xiao listened intently, not wanting to interrupt.

"dare I say, I simply viewed her as someone who had it easier than me" Zhongli continued his story.

Xiao was no less than taken aback by those words, yet he kept his mouth shut. it was certainly unsettling just how different you felt about your brother from how he felt about you.

"I'm sure you're well aware of how similar our parents are..." and so, Zhongli let Xiao dive even deeper into his story.

hours passed as Zhongli kept talking about his life, thinking back on his actions while he was on it too.

"Perhaps, she mistook my actions back then as a form of affection" Zhongli uttered, sighing as he finished telling his story.

after all those talking, Zhongli finally gazed at Xiao waiting for his response to which he was only met with a confused stare once more.

"why are you telling me all this?"

"as much as you're my best friend and as much as you're a brother to me, I want you to have your own say in this. I don't want you to blindly follow me" A slight sincere smile appeared on his face as he said those words, knowing very well what Xiao would think.

"Zhongli-"

"Besides, I thought you were in love with her?" Zhongli quickly added.

as much as Xiao wanted to lie, his words were caught up in his tongue, his mind going blank as he stare wide-eyed at Zhongli.

Zhongli watched as Xiao collected himself, getting back to his right mind.

"I can't like someone who is on bad terms with you," Xiao briefly stated, his eyes looking straight at Zhongli's amber ones which are identical to yours.

what a lie it would be if he were to say the guilt wasn't eating him up. nevertheless, if it was for Zhongli then he was more than ready to throw away whatever it was that you had with him.

he was even ready to kill the part of him that wanted to go to you as soon as he could, comforting you for all that had happened in your life.

a slight frown appeared on Zhongli's face upon hearing those words. standing up from his seat, Zhongli gave a little encouraging nudge at Xiao's arm.

"now that I think about it, I was mostly in the wrong. it was only right for her to hate me"

Xiao mindlessly stared at his tote bag laying on the ground as Zhongli left Xiao to his thoughts. his mind wandered, not even knowing what you'll say or think about him.

yet, nothing could he have ever wanted more at that moment than just to go to you.
