After packing my suitcase I sat on my bed and began to read one of my books when I heard downstairs the phone ring, who would call someone at this time of night? So I ran downstairs to see Sarah on the phone writing something down.
"Ok, great" Sarah told the person on the phone" but my husband and my sister and I work as a team"
"Who is it?" I whisper, and she waves her hand in my face.
"Oh, you got our flyer" affirmed Sarah, Jim stood behind me
"Who is it? He asked me " how would I know" I shrug" ask Sarah "
"Oh, I'm so sorry, but tomorrow I've got plans that can't be broken." Jim rushed forward and grabbed Sarah's attention
"Who is that?" He asked her
"Excuse me a second," she faced Jim " just someone calling about repping a house"
"What is the address? Where is it?" She handed him some paper and I looked over his shoulder, my eyes widen
"Sarah, do you know where this place is?" Jim said stunned Sarah shakes her head no.
"No way that real!" I asserted
"All the places up here are like big multimillion-dollar mansions. This could be big!" Jim explained to Sarah
"I'll be able to move out, no offense Sarah I love you but, my very own place," I said dreamily.
"And what about our big family adventure? And you, I thought you liked it here?" She worried.
"Sarah I do" I mumble " you know I didn't mean it like that, I love you and the kid"
"It's fine good night Winnie," Sarah said.
For two hours, I've been squashed between two adolescent teenagers, for two hours all I've heard for two hours is how Megan did this, Michael did that, I'm hungry, I'm bored, well guess what I'm about to kill somebody.
"Jim, where are we going? the lake is that way" I pointed in the right direction" do you need me to drive?" I ask
"No, it's just a little detour," Jim told everybody in the car.
"How long is it going to take?" Megan asks
"No more than 20 minutes. 20 minutes tops" Jim tells her
"Oh, yeah, 20 minutes for sure, 'cause he'll only take 20 minutes" I scoff
"You, kids should be excited, you gonna finally get to see Mommy and Daddy in real estate, action," Jim says to them
"Hey! What about me?" I'm offended.
"You don't do much" not much! Not much, I just stage the house and your office. While I thought of Jim and not nice words that can't be said in front of children, Jim's phone rang.
"Somebody's calling me. Who's calling me?" He said to nobody but himself
"Hello. Jim Evers, Evers, and Evers real estate." He pitched up the phone annoyed" Stan, how are you doing? What's the latest?" I sat there mimicking him and making Micheal and Megan laugh " Reall? The Selmer property? Tomorrow?.... I'm kids out of town right now... But listen, maybe I could come back early." Jim said kinda asking Sarah, she gave him the evil eye. So being the adult I grabbed the phone from Jim.
"Oh, no, can't come back early, we can't make it, maybe we should just take care of this on Monday," I ask Stan " alright Monday sounds great thang you" and hung up.
As we got closer our scenery started to change. The tress got darker and we drove over a swap and if there's a swap there are snakes and I hate snakes
"Are we still in America?" Questioned Micheal, I looked him in the eyes and said " no, this is where dead bodies go"
