With his overbearing presence gone, I could finish my dinner in peace.
The Sinclair residence was so empty.
I liked the silence.
The Abbott castle was well endowed with numerous maidservants, and there was never a month where we didn't host a grand feast for a reputable guest. The place was always bustling with people. There was never quiet.
The only people I had seen here were Anne and Lord Sinclair. Either there were no other inhabitants, or everyone else was very quiet. I hadn't heard a single footstep other than my own.
The distaste I felt for my meal vanished the moment the Lord left. I returned to my room, satisfied.
I went out to the balcony to watch the sunset.
It would be a bit much to hope that I could live out the rest of my life here hiding away from the Lord, like I did with the guests at the Abbott castle.
Would it be as daring to hope he'd never hurt me?
