'Parents?! They must be out of their mind!'
"You talked like an old lady, Elisha. You're just 9," said the woman's husband.
Nine?! I'm 30 years old! I want to scream that, but I have to be careful not to repeat what happened earlier.
"Can I have a mirror?" I requested. I feel like I know what's going on, but I refuse to believe it. Slowly, she reached into her bag and handed me a mirror.
I couldn't believe my eyes. Damn, I look so young and pretty as always. No wonder why the doctors and nurses have been fawning over me.
"Fuck!"
"What? Elisha! Who taught you that word?!" the woman exclaimed as she gave her husband a tap. "Hon, that school is such a mess. Look what happened to our daughter. She's learning nasty things!" she said, looking concerned.
"M-Mom, what happened to my leg? I can't remember." I managed to utter the words, despite feeling a twinge of cringiness, 'cause based on her appearance, this woman seems to be around the same age as I am.
"The grade 5 students hit your left leg with baseball bats. I'm not sure why they did it, but I'm definitely going to take legal action against the school and their parents. I'll make them pay," She angrily resplied while her husband behind her is just gently rubbing her back to calm her down.
"You don't have to do that, Mom. You transferring me to another school is enough." I said in a sweet tone. It seemed like a weight was lifted off her shoulders. She playfully ruffled my hair.
'Annoying'
"You really talk like an old lady for your age, I'm sorry we're too busy to look after you. Me and your Dad's just securing your future, just incase something bad happens to us." I don't know why but I feel like I've heard those exact words somewhere, but I can't remember when.
'Weird'
****
As we were getting closer to the School gate, I could already hear the noise of children playing and talking. I miss this, but I don't want to go back.
'I have no choice'
"Galingan mo sa class mo, baby. Our driver will pick you up later. Your class is 1-Diamond, Okay? Behave always. I love you so much. Give mommy a kiss." I kissed her on the cheek and bid my goodbye.
While carrying my bag na de gulong ay I looked for the pila of section Diamond. I didn't have a hard time finding it because it's always at the left front.
While in line, waiting for the flag ceremony to start, a young girl approached me and started a conversation.
"Dito ka? Mamaya pa naman yung start ng Flag Ceremony, tara laro tayo chinese garter." I know the game but I have to refuse. I'm wearing a skirt.
'If only I'm not wearing a skirt right now. I'll show this kid who's the boss of that game.'
"Sorry, I don't wanna eh. Yayain mo nalang yung other kids." I declined and I was surprised by what she did. She rolled her eyes on me and turned away.
What the heck??
"Nakakainis yan talaga! Pag di nakukuha gusto, mananaray. Sipsip pa sa teachers." A kid beside me annoyingly said. She was already looking at me before I even turned my head.
"Ang ganda ng bag mo, de gulong. Mayaman ka siguro."
Pfft I'm really in an Elementary School. Kiddos think that having a bag with wheels means you're rich.
'Pakita ko kaya 120 pieces kong crayola?'
"No, may kaya lang." I denied.
"Section Diamond ka pala, bago? di pa kita nakita eh." She asked while smiling.
"Yes, I'm new here."
"From section 2 Sardonyx ako, katabing room niyo lang, ano pangalan mo?" She seems nice. Unlike the kid earlier.
"A-- Elisha." I almost said my name, but luckily, I managed to stop.
"I'm Fiona," She said. There was no trace of suspicion on her face, so I breathed a sigh of relief.
'Ofc, she's a kid. She has no clue at all.'
"GRADE 4 STUDENTS! PAKI AYOS NG PILA! KAYONG MGA STUDENTS NA NAGLALARO SA LIKOD SINO ADVISER NYO? BUMALIK NA KAYO SA PILA KUNG AYAW N'YO IPATAWAG KO PARENTS N'YO!"
Our attention immediately shifted to the teacher on stage as her scolding echoed through the massive speakers.
"Hala! Si Ma'am Culambo! Balik na 'ko sa pila ko ha, Elisha. Umayos ka na rin ng pila. Puntahan kita sa room n'yo mamayang recess hihi." I nodded as an answer.
"UMAYOS NA KAYO NG PILA, MAG UUMPISA NA ANG ATING FLAG CEREMONY!"
