isla hamilton
it was the morning of the debutante tea and i was already tired of being a debutante. i changed into my dress and put on my fascinator and heels. i am accessorized with silver jewelry and i didn't put much makeup on besides some mascara, and a light pink shade of lip gloss. i also put a little blush on.i had already said goodbye to my parents and was driving to the country club. my car was completely silent besides my breath was to be heard.
i couldn't get what my mom said the other day out of my head. she would always be invited to my wedding. i didn't know what got her thinking she wouldn't have been.
arriving at the country club, i walked in and made my way upstairs. i was told to go to table three, so i made my way over there. a smile was already brought to my face as i noticed cece and lilli sitting down.
"your mom roped you into this too?" i looked at cece with a grin. she rolled her eyes, "don't even get me started."
i then looked at lilli, "is leo making you do this?"
lilli nodded slowly, "he wants me to make friends. he's acting like my mom and we're only a few months apart!"
cece and i laughed, "that's leo." we said in unison. cece then continued, "you might not have noticed but he is the mother of the group. which is shocking because the number of times he's gotten drunk when he's the dd is shocking." lilli laughed.
our attention was taken away when two figures entered the room. a girl and a boy. a brunette and a blonde. belly and jeremiah.
cece looked at me warily. something i remember from the bonfire was the entire group was near me when everything with jeremiah happened. she also knew our relationship over the years and my feelings for him. i completely forgot to tell her about what had happened between us.
i looked at jeremiah, hoping his eyes would find mine. he knew i had the tea party today because he knew i was a debutante. i had told him after the whole thing with my parents.
his eyes never found mine. they were on belly the entire time. jeremiah even looked around the room at one point, but his eyes went to a blonde named gigi. i suppressed a scoff.
i didn't like being ignored, so i raised my voice slightly, "i can't wait to see your dresses!"
bingo.
jeremiah looked over at me and he smiled and waved. i just looked at him. although my plan had worked, it didn't mean i wanted to talk to him. i just wanted him to know that i was there and now he hopefully gets an understanding that i don't like to be ignored.
his eyebrows furrowed for a moment but were quickly wiped away as his eyes found a dessert on table one. he snatched one and ran out, "love you, bells!"
i calmly picked up the glass of water and poured some into my glass, "would anyone like some?" cece, lilli, and the three other girls at the table shook their heads.
cece seemed worried, lilli was confused, and the other girls were chatting to themselves.
i sat up and looked at lilli and cece, "i'll be back."
racing down the stairs of the country club i searched for jeremiah.
i was told to be quick because i was about to miss an important speech, but i took my time. i could care less about a speech.
finally making it to the bottom, i noticed a familiar face at the stairs. it clicked. "your sextus, right?"
he jumped slightly, "um yeah. but my real name is cam."
i nodded, "well hi cam."
cam waved awkwardly. he then looked up the stairs and then looked at me, "is belly up there?"
i rolled my eyes in a way that i could tell they were being rolled but others couldn't, "maybe."
he nodded and he began to walk towards to steps. "wait," i called, "have you seen a guy with blonde hair? lifeguard jacket?"
"yeah, he went to the bathrooms. they're over there." he nodded his head to the corner of the room.
"thank you!" i smiled. cam went upstairs and we went our separate ways.
opening the bathroom doors i immediately made contact with jeremiah who was using a urinal. my eyes dared to peak, but i shook my head.
"what the hell was that?" i asked angrily.
jeremiah jumped and started to zipper up, "jesus isla! you can't be in here!"
i looked around the empty bathroom, "i don't see why not. it's empty. and you didn't answer my question, jeremiah."
he shrugged his shoulders, "i didn't do anything. if anything, you did. i smile and wave and you completely ignore me? like i'm nothing."
i laughed but it lacked amusement, "i ignored you? okay. you looked everywhere in the room but where i was. you didn't even search for me. instead, you were looking at gigi, and are we surprised? belly."
"i wasn't looking at belly!"
"oh, but you were looking at gigi?"
he groaned, "no!"
i nodded dryly, "okay. but you lied to me. you said there was nothing between you and belly, but i could tell there was."
jeremiah's face was completely blank.
i made my way to the door and turned around, just a little bit, "text me when you want to tell the truth. oh, and when you want to start a relationship. because right now jeremiah, if you keep doing this to me, putting me second whenever belly's around, you won't just have me as a girlfriend, you won't have me as a friend."
and i walked out.
sitting back down at the table i was given questionable stares from my friends, but i ignored them. i tuned everything out and just listened to my thoughts.
jeremiah fisher wasn't turning out to be the man i thought he was.
