I opened the door and crept in. Thankfully the door was in the back of the classroom. I sat down at the empty back seat without notice. This classroom was humongous, beautiful tapestries hung from the ceiling but didn't bother the teaching. In front of the class was a young fellow. He had blonde hair and green eyes. The thing that was most odd was his pointy ears. He seemed to be doing attendance, or starting anyway. "Marina, Mike, Selena, Amy, James, Joseph, Avery'' each name was followed with a "here!" He called out a few more names, mine was one of them. "Here" I responded. The teacher looked around for a bit, then he spoke. "As anyone here who blind or def knows, this class is'' he pointed at a random kid, they seemed startled and replied "protection?" The teacher seemed delighted with his reply "yes my dear boy! Protection class is precisely for what?" He pointed at a girl. The poor girl hesitated before saying "to defend against curses and spells of harm?" The teacher literally sang with joy "YES!" I silently thought that this teacher was delusional. "Protection magic class is for defending yourselves against others should you need it!" The teacher jumped onto his desk before shouting something that sounded like gibberish. A ghostly blue wild cat appeared before him. "Any of you who know attack spells, use them against me!" No kids moved up, except one brave girl, she pointed her wand while whispering and a beam of purple light shot out of her wand towards the teacher. The wild cat seemed to have neutralized the beam as it dissipated the moment it touched the wild cat. The students were in awe and started attacking the teacher with spells. I looked in my bag and saw a beautifully carved, wooden wand. It had a strange cat-like dog carved into the handle with a shiny stone that shimmered like fire. I took it out and felt a surge of power and a feeling of clarity settle. I pointed it at the teacher and thought of words that came so naturally, she had known them all her life "Galician" she whispered the words. In a flash a beam of life appeared a few feet away, it was reddish black and swirled around like it was swimming, it turned the room light red as it moved, it went for the teacher as quickly as a snake. The cat quickly jumped towards it and dissipated instead of the beam. The beam momentarily stopped, as if it were alive. Then swirled around the teacher, as it pounced for him, he stopped it with a powerful beam of light from his wand. The beam of light enveloped the fiery red beam that seemed to shift between black and red. All of the students screeched as it bursted loudly like a balloon. The teacher was dazed. He got off his desk and looked at the terrified students, me among them, without a word he passed
All of the students went into a flurry of panic and started screaming "he needs help!" "What happened!" "I'M SCARED" "IS HE DEAD!" Everyone screamed, while others who hadn't yelled checked the teacher. "HE'S OKAY" a girl shouted, trying to reach the other students. The girl had pointy ears and rich locks of brown hair. Her fierce lime green eyes shone with determination as she shouted over the panicked class "MR. FILBURN IS OKAY! HE NEEDS HELP THOUGH" the class still murmured as she shouted. A few moments later a teacher burst inside the room angrily. He had a red face with that look when you know you're gonna get it. "HONESTLY THE AMOUNT OF DISRESPECT FOR OTHER CLASSES HERE IS-" before he could finish he saw the class gathered around Mr. Filburn. "What in the world!" He shouted, less angrily and quieter. The girl with brown hair quickly told him "he passed out! We were attacking him with spells because he told us too! He put up an animal shield and then a big beam of hellish light destroyed the shield. He managed to block it with some big white light but now he's on the floor, and he's bleeding!" My neck snaps towards him as she says that. Indeed as she said, his nose was dripping blood down. The teacher quickly went to him, he whipped out his wand and said "Slovak!" The unconscious teacher was lifted into the air, the other teacher hurried him out of the classroom quickly and told us to stay quiet and behave. As soon as he leaves, the chatter starts up again "who do you think did it?" A kid whispered to his friend "probably someone scary and intimidating" the other kids said. I felt nervous as sweat poured down my back. Was that me? I hoped that the teacher would be okay. How did I even do that? How did I even know how to do that? Questions flood my mind like a hurricane. Making me stare at the wall with a dead face. "I didn't see anything unusual" "how did this happen on day 1?" "I don't know if I like this school..." all of the whispers turned to loud talking as the students discussed who it was. I sat down and didn't look at anyone, I also covered my strange eye even though my hair already covered it. Some group of kids started walking around the classroom and surrounded any student. I listened in and heard them say "what did you do!" "Weren't you one of the kids who attacked the teacher last!" "You're pretty far to the back, how confident you wouldn't have been spotted!" The kids made accusations to the kid, he didn't break so they came to me. My chest tightened in fear and I stopped breathing. I quickly bagged my wand and grabbed my bag tightly. In the village kids would take my things if I left them lying around and I almost never saw them again. It was sad enough, so I was prepared for them, but didn't feel like it. They surrounded me and one of the kids, taller than me looked down "how oh so convenient you were at the back of the class with nobody watching you!" He said, his hand hit my desk for emphasis. "So tell me, what exactly happened during class!" He asked me, waiting for the reply. "Well I saw what you saw, and what makes you think a kid did that?" I replied. The kid stuttered for a moment but quickly responded "I-I'm the one asking the questions here!" I wait for them to leave, hoping they will do so. After getting bored they disperse to find another poor victim. I don't know what to do, I feel shaky and I don't want to know what happens next. As the chatter reaches an all-time high, the teacher from before burst into the class. "Class is dismissed!" Everyone started bolting out of the room laughing and talking. I decided to check my calendar, alchemy 101. I start wandering the halls since it's a fair amount of time before the next class starts. The halls are so magnificent, I see so many paintings and the windows are bigger than adults! I dance around, twirling. Without notice, my eye comes uncovered. I don't really realize it and just let my hair fall back on. Time to find class, I think to myself before setting off to find alchemy. The twisting corridors were a challenge to navigate but eventually I found a door with some engraved words "ALCHEMY 101" I slowly opened the creaky door and saw a classroom with a few kids inside laughing and talking. I entered knowing some of these kids were from my class before, some kids looked at me when I walked to a desk in the second front row. The chatter level was rising without a teacher there to shush them. I started pulling out the things I needed for alchemy, according to the calendar notes. I took a set of bottles and vials, a cauldron, and a textbook. A bunch of other students had brought nearly identical items, I sighed in relief that I wasn't preparing things I wouldn't need because then that would be embarrassing if the teacher called out. Daniel quickly came from behind and patted me on the back "hi there! Hope you remember me? If you don't, well that's impossible!" He laughed and took a seat next to me. "The teacher is really fascinated with discovering new recipes and loves teaching the poor kids in her classes. Sadly I cannot comprehend any of her gibberish." he sighed dramatically "so you don't like the teacher?" I ask him curiously. "Well I wouldn't say that, I'm just bored because we never get to make anything fun or useful." I didn't want to ask what he meant by fun or useful so I just looked at the chalkboard waiting for the teacher. Eventually an aged woman came bounding in like she was 20! "Alright, I understand you are all new to this school, mostly." She said, glaring at Daniel who shrugged. "Alchemy is to help the mind and body, but it can also destroy it. So I am here to make sure you get it right, I'm Ms. Donner. Any mis-behaving students will be asked to leave and are not to return until next class." The teacher finished, then went to grab a book. "Alchemy 101 is to show you the basics. But we aren't going to actually brew potions today" Ms. Donner said. She started mentioning the theory of how potions are made. It was pretty boring so I started hanging my head and closed my eyes. The sheer torture of the lesson wasn't as horrible as spellcraft theory so I guess I didn't hate it. I waited for so long until my name was called. I snapped my head up and the teacher, obviously annoyed repeated
"Lisa! What is the best way to procure pixie dust?" I felt panic swell up and looked at Daniel. Think, what did she say about pixies? I got it! As the teacher was about to say something I replied "get a pixie to sprinkle sand on their wings and flutter!" Ms. Donors didn't seem impressed with how long I took to answer but she went on. I paid attention for the rest of class just in case I would be called on again. Once dismissed, I practically flew out of the classroom, alchemy was boring, it felt like forever! I gloried the shimmery hall as Daniel came up to me. "How did you remember what Ms. Donner said? You looked brain dead in your chair!" He laughed and patted me on the back. "I mean I guess my brain went into autopilot or something" I responded, thinking it was sort of funny. "Anyways I heard what happened to Mr. filburn! Crazy scary when he got attacked. Nurse reckons it was death magic or something... it's the only thing kids are talking about, and nobody knows. What happened and any kids who were witnesses haven't said anything yet." Daniel explained to me as if I knew nothing. "Is he going to be okay?" I asked him since he seemed to know everything about it. He looked down thoughtfully before answering "He's not gonna be here tomorrow morning but he just needs rest." Daniel waved goodbye and flew away making a loud buzzing noise, probably to annoy any kids or teacher.
