Why had she snapped at Richard? She didn't feel different from when she came, and she was a mess with others. Lisa mentally facepalmed, oh god what would happen later. She pulled her cloak over her legs and curled up, she wanted to hide in embarrassment. Charlie nudged her as she tried to hide.
"No Charlie" she moaned and pulled the cloak over her face. Charlie stood on his hind legs and put his front paws on her. He nudged her more, until he knocked her over. Lisa grumbled and continued to hide, her cheeks flushed with red.
'What are you doing?" Asked someone above, Lisa swerved her head upwards. An elf with several beautiful red locks that twisted and weaved through her shoulders stood in front of her.
At the top of her head a vain attempt to bundle the wild hair in a bun which brought up a bit of her hair. Sharp and long pointy ears connected to a head with two narrow, but bright green eyes that shined. Lisa sat up quickly, her cheeks even more flushed.
"Uh- I'm sitting" Lisa mumbled, thankfully Charlie saved her. Charlie let out a weird bark and launched towards the elf. She got knocked over, Lisa yelped "Charlie NO" she had been saved by Charlie from conversation, but was this worse? Lisa snatched Charlie from the stranger.
"I am SO sorry!" Lisa said frantically as she tried to hold Charlie.
This is just getting sad
Lisa ignored the slithering cold voice which crept in the back of her mind.
Sadly Charlie had the flexibility of liquid and slipped through her grasp while she tried to block out the voice.
" It's fine, I'm Evelyn by the way" the elf said, brushing off a bit of dirt. Charlie rubbed against Lisa's leg and purred affectionately.
" I'm Lisa," Lisa replied. She looked down at the grass instead of Evelyn's piercing eyes. It was unsettling.
" Well how come you're sitting here all alone-" Charlie let out a snarl and a low rumble "sorry, about this little furball" Charlie snorted, this peasant needed to learn her place. " I- well I don't remember" Lisa shrugged as she admitted that she had forgotten why she was here at all. It clicked in as she remembered.
" oh actually I was exploring the campus, I'm new" Lisa felt more resolved when she spoke. Evelyn looked her up and down " so you are new? That's interesting, what do you think so far?" Evelyn asked, seeming to be sincere about her question.
" I think it's pretty cool," she said honestly. " Do you want me to stay with you? It is pretty lonely here" she asked, plopping down next to Lisa. "Oh uh I- sure" it was lonely here, so the company of another human, or elf in this case, was nice.
Lisa sat down next to Evelyn, Charlie hopped onto Lisa's lap and curled up comfortably. "Wow that is one sassy carpet" she pointed out Charlie which hissed as she pointed.
"He's ... exhausting," Lisa admitted. Charlie spun and stared at Lisa before snuggling up in a ball. Lisa pet him which let out a low rumble that vibrated her lap. "So who have you met? I swear if I hear Daniel I'll go beat him into the ground. He's always bothering new kids."Evelyn explained. "Well I met daffodil, then uh not Daniel" Lisa muttered as she pet Charlie. " Of course you saw Daniel, he's so annoying!" She emphasized before flopping over onto the grass. " I don't think he's annoying!" Lisa retorted. Evelyn snickered, " sure, tell yourself whatever you need to believe that's true." Evelyn pulled out a beautiful wand with the carving of a wolf and a feather hanging from it. "Here watch this." Evelyn said before pointing her wand to the grass. She muttered something before a thin beam of black light projected across the grass. In the area it seemed as if life was fading, the grass shriveled and died. " oh uh, thats scary?" Lisa asked, feeling unsettled. "Well, watch this next part" Evelyn then lifted the black light which had turned green towards the now dead grass. All the life seemed to rush back into the grass and it sprouted quickly. " you can suck life out of anything that moves, and use it to give life to something else." Evelyn said before retracting her wand into a pocket of her pitch black robes. The beam evaporated and the half grown grass seemed out of place.
" I swear if daniel tries to bother you again I will pulverize him with these spells."
Interesting so far, at the least you could learn those spells, ask about it
Lisa without warning found herself doing what the voice had said. "How did you learn that?" Lisa felt surprised as the words left her tongue. Weird, she hadn't planned on that. Evelyn thought for a moment, going still. "I learned from my classes actually, I'm a second year student so I took destruction." Evelyn said casually, as if it was normal. Lisa thought for a moment, destruction magic didn't seem to be for her, she made a mental note to not take that class.
Disappointing
Shut it, lisa hissed in her head. Lisa was annoyed by the voice invading her head.
" hey you good?" Evelyn asked, giving her a weird look.
Shoot! Lisa seemed startled. "Huh? Oh! Yeah! Yeah..." she assured evelyn who did not looked convinced.
" you sure? You feel... different" Evelyn looked just above her eyes, as if something was on lisa. " Hey I have to go- uh, bye!' Then she power walked away.
Avoid her, she's dangerous
"What do you mean?" Lisa asked as evelyn disappeared from view. " I thought you wanted me to learn her magic?" Lisa asked, she did not plan to do so either way but was curious. What caused the sudden change of heart?
Do not dwell on these matters, leave it be
It hissed in her head. Lisa rolled her eyes. "Maybe if you could actually tell me one thing about yourself i would be willing to listen." Charlie looked up at lisa, he had no idea who she was talking to.
I am many things and people-
"Not good enough." Lisa muttered. " why did you invade my mind? What even are you?" Lisa asked, wondering how to glare at the voice.
I am a spirit, one here to guide you, I must go now
"Wait!" She jumped forward, though there was no reply. Charlie was startled and darted off. He turned around and stalked to lisa. In an act of spite he gave her a small chomp before lying back down next to her. Lisa sighed and lied down, what now?
