I got up so quickly my head hit the top bunk. I groaned in pain and rubbed my sore head. Daffodil had burst into the room as dramatically as possible with her wings spread out and her in an extravagant pose. "Lisa! How was your day? Good I hope. My day was like any normal day, we could have even gotten homework!" Daffodil said, plopping herself on my bed. "It was the worst! Except my friend Haley! We met in the first year." Daffodil paused to breathe and continued "last year we said goodbye and hoped to be in each other's classes. Well maybe it was just me who said that... but it still counts!" She added before stopping. "Well I met a girl named Miriam who was very nice to me. I also met a rude boy, I think his name was Richard." I say thoughtfully. "Richard! He is the worst!" Daffodil exclaimed, making an X with her arms "so snobby and rude, the only reason he hasn't been expelled is because he could literally buy this place and still be able to spend money!" Daffodil sighs. "I wish I could kick him out!" Daffodil said loudly and angrily. "I heard Miriam was his cousin" I tell Daffodil, "WHAT! No way! Miriam is way too nice to be related to that son of a..." Daffodil mumbled the last words but I still heard them. As Daffodil went up to her bunk bed, her little sugar glider came down and landed on Daffodil's shoulder. I have an urge to pet the little chubby squirrel but I resist. A thought pops into my mind and I quickly go off. Daffodil calls after me but I just briskly call back "I gotta go!"
I wandered the halls until Liz saw the massive doors I was led in before. After going through. I blinked to adjust to the beaming sunlight. By the entrance was the stone walkway and circling the inner side of it was a golden dragon statue with spread out wings facing the sky. I could see Miriam hanging by it in the shade. She saw me and waved happily. I waved back as I walked over there casually. "Hey lisa! I wondered when you would come, for a second I thought you forgot" Miriam told me. "Don't worry, I won't forget, I just got preoccupied..." I say to Miriam. Miriam smiles warmly. " It's nice to have a friend on the first day of school, especially since Richard picks on me because he's embarrassed to be related to me." Miriam says, looking up to the navy blue sky. "That's horrible! You need to stand up to him!" I tell her assuringly. Miriam looks unsure with a nervous face. "I don't know, he's scary and mean." Miriam says squeamishly.
I decided it was time for a change of topic. "So how did your day go?" I asked Miriam. As she was about to respond a voice shouted loudly "well well, look who it is!" I looked in the direction of who it was, I sighed as I recognized him. I could feel my eyes roll by themselves. Miriam had a frightened look, she looked down quickly and avoided eye contact. "Leave us alone!" I shouted at Richard. He grinned and threw something at my head, I felt a squish and looked at my robe. A weird mushy fruit squished on my robe. I yelped in disgust. Richard laughed evilly while pointing at the disgusting fruit. I grab the fruit and feel the squish in my hands. I flinch and whine about the texture. I throw the fruit as hard as I can at Richard's face. Dead on the face. The fruit then falls into his mouth. He gags and cries and coughs while falling to the floor and crying out. "THIS IS GROSS!" I snicker as I pull Miriam along with my mush-free hand. "That's how you do it." I tell Miriam. She looks at me with shining eyes and responds "that was amazing! You need to teach me how to aim like that!" "maybe later." I say as we walk the halls. "Anyways, what do you think happened to Mr. fliburn?" Miriam says casually. Of course we had to talk about this of all topic changes! "I have no idea, maybe someone made a mistake. How did students even know attack spells?" I say. "Well some kids learned them from the spellbooks everyone has. Others learned at home." Miriam replied. I nodded as she explained. "I am super excited for the familiar festival! Sadly it's next week." Miriam said distantly, she seemed caught in dreaming. "Well what do you hope for?" I ask, trying to see what the options are. "I hope for something portable and friendly." Miriam says. "That sounds nice." I tell her, I start to wonder what I'm going to get as a familiar, if I get one. I think to myself, Miriam continues to talk, but I feel exhaustion set in. I excuse myself and see Miriam wave goodbye.
this is a little short because I'm gonna timeskip next chapter and want to end the first day here.
