"What happened to being covert?!" Robin yelled through the mind links glaring at the group in front of him. The Team was currently stuck in the branches of a large tree, hiding from Bane's gunmen, searching for them below.
It was supposed to be a quick and simple mission. Get in the jungle, find Bane and the venom, and get back in time for dinner. But no. Robin had to go the extra mile and forced the team to try and retrieve some of the venom then head home and radio Batman.
"If you were better with your communication and actually tell us what you're thinking rather than swinging off into the dark with nothing as much as a giggle we wouldn't be here!" Avis snapped. "Says the twelve-year-old who hasn't been doing anything this whole time." Wally immaturely shot at her causing her to turn to him, her eyes narrowed into a harsh glare.
"Both of you stop. We are all together in this. We cannot afford conflicts within the Team at the time." Kaldur'ahm's stern voice cut in. The two teens exchanged silent glares before directing their attention back to Robin and Kaldur, tuning into their planning.
"We tried the split-up method before," M'gann addressed, referring to when they had first landed on the island and were forced to split up. "Yeah, didn't go too well," Robin replied, "But this time, it will. We will each have a certain place that we need to go, and-" "Bust some bad guy butt, get the venom and be home before Alfred's Dinner closes at midnight." Wally cut in a dreamy look in his eye as he imagined the greasy food sitting in front of him. The Team exchanged glances, none of them wasting the energy trying to correct him. "We'll split up into four groups." Robin continued, "Ms. M and Blitz – Superboy and Kid Flash– then Aqualad and me alone. Does that sound good?"
Everyone looked a bit uneasy and traded nervous glances. This was their first real mission as heroes – not sidekicks – heroes, and the first one without adult supervision, and from where they currently were it was not looking too good. After a moment of silence, Robin spoke up again "Well good luck everyone! See you at the rendezvous point!" and before anyone could respond he had disappeared, his childish laughter filling the air as he swung away.
"I hate it when he does that," Avis muttered under her breath before looking to M'gann who was hovering beside her. "Ready to go?" She asked through a personal mind link between the girls. "Just a moment please," Avis replied and closed her eyes. ...Focus on the eyes...ignore the pain receptors those can stay off...Avis said to herself as she steadied her breathing. ...Increase the power to photoreceptor cells for better night vision...
After a few moments, the teen opened her eyes and saw the darkened jungle had seemed to become more of a light blue than a dark navy making everything easier to see. She turned back to M'gann, pulling her black face mask up on her nose and her black and orange hood up on her head, causing her bright yellow eyes to be the only thing on her body that was visible. "Ready." she nodded.

The girls made quick work finding the lab in the jungle where Bane was storing his venom. The next obstacle was getting in. "How much venom should we take?" Avis asked, tapping into the team mind link. At first, there was no response and M'gann glanced at Avis nervously. Finally, a few grunts of pain sounded in their heads followed by a worn-out Robin. "How many vials are there?" he asked. He sounded out of breath and in pain. "We aren't inside yet," Avis responded, "Do you need any help?" "Nah I'm good, we're still in an aster. See you at the rendezvous point" and with that, the Boy Wonder was gone. "God, I hate his wordplay," Avis muttered. "It's confusing but I think it's cute." M'gann giggled softly causing the yellowed-eyed girl to give her an 'in what way?' look. The martin blushed and quickly shook her head and hands, "I-In a platonic way!" Avis chuckled a bit shaking her head went to the door to try and crack the keypad. , "You and men in tights," she said referring to Ms. M telling Superboy that he'd look good in tights on the way to the jungle. The green-skinned hero blushed even brighter and covered her face with her cloak's hood, turning her invisible.
After a few minutes of punching buttons, Avis finally gave up on cracking the keypad. "What now?" M'gann asked turning visible and watching the hooded figure back up away from the door and glare at it. "Blitz?" The girl raced forward and sent a flying kick to the handle, busting it clean off, but causing too much noise in the process. "Blitz!" the Martian gasped as the door slowly swung open and Avis looked up at her teammate, her eyes glittering with victory and mischief before darting into the dark and messy lab.
"Blitz wait!" M'gann repeated desperately, dropping down to the ground and running inside, pausing to look at the busted door knob before following inside.
"Jackpot" Avis smirked to herself and began to quickly collect the vials. M'gann crept forward and found her teammate standing in front of atall, refrigerated case, stocked to the brim with vials of different colors andlabels. "Found the vials Ms. M!" the hoodedfigure grinned from behind her mask, turning to M'gann. "Blitz to Team? Anyone copy?" Avis said through the group mind link, a rare sound of giddiness laced in her voice. "We hear you,Blitz." Kaldur responded, "Do youhave news?" "Ms. Martian and I found the lab that Bane keeps his venom in!"Avis said proudly, taking one or two of each vial and putting it in her utilitybelt. "Excellent timing Blitz!" Robincongratulated, sounding stressed but his mischivious tone not leaving his voice.
"Because we need to get to the rendezvous point. Now."
