ADAM AND I LEANED OVER!

we looked at the man in the doorway.

"oh, this is my son, adam. adam, this is derek. and this is cherry. one of adams friends." ellie introduced.

adam, unusually, didn't roll his eyes at the word friend.

instead, he opened his mouth to make another kissing joke, but quickly paused himself.

"hi!" i greeted.

"hello, derek. you have a wonderful mouth mullet. you just be very proud." adam complimented sarcastically.

"oh my gosh, adam." ellie said, embarrassed.

"never heard it called that before." derek touched his goatee.

"well, thanks again." ellie smiled.

"see you soon." derek waved.

"unlikely, but i'll put a good word in for you." adam continued his sarcasm.

"god damn." i repressed laughter.

"okay, okay! i'll see you at work." ellie waved him
off.

they both did an awkward laugh, and she shut the door.

"he seems nice." adam said.

ellie stared at him.

"what?" adam questioned.

"you can be a real jerk sometimes. you know that?" she shook her head.

she walked away, peeling the sweater off of herself, and wrapping herself in a blanket.

i placed a hand on adams shoulder.

"you're not a jerk." i encouraged.

"thanks." adam nodded his head. "do you want to stay for the night?"

i nodded.

sure, adam was still mad at the fact that cherry had bullied and annoyed him.

maybe she'd never really hurt him, and sometimes she was more helpful than she was a bully, but the insults she poured at him occasionally stayed in his brain.

she was really bad at being a bully.

but, he was also angry at the fact that when she kissed him, he didn't hate it.

"can you kiss me again?" adam asked, out of nowhere.

"sure?" cherry said, confused. "are you sick?"

adam kissed her.
