she makes her way home, waving with a wince and a grimaced smile at herman, the owner of the pizza shop beneath her apartment and climbing the steps two at a time before she opens the door and is immediately greeted by lucky, who bounds over to her and barks with his tail wagging and his tongue lolling out like he's happy about something, and kate's about to question him when-
"how come every time i visit, you take forever to get here, kate bishop?"
