Evie's POVI am waken up by someone throwing water on my face. I open my eyes to see Stephen Bonnet and his pirate crew laughing at me. The person responsible for the brutal awakening was the Stephen Bonnet.
"Time to wake up, lassie." He whispers into my ear.
I get up to find myself on a ship, his ship. It is a fairly small ship easy with the wind rustling through the captain's glad flying high in the sky. I examine my area and see his men galavanting about, eating what seems to be porridge, smoking tobacco, and watching one of the merry-man tell a story.
"You need to eat. Here." Bonnet hands me some porridge and some bread. He smiles at me and turns back to men discussing his plans.
I get up and notice that the crowd were staring at me waiting for me to sit down, find a place to sit. I finally chose a table to sit at with a teenaged boy and a very small child who looked to be of Native descent.
"Don't worry about them, they're very curious why their Captain decided to held a young Bonnie lass, like yourself captive." The teenage boy speaks.
I look at them unsure how in the world Bonnet came across these children. The boy looked at be about 17 years of age with sandy blonde hair that reached his shoulders and a dimple on his left cheek that became apparent when he spoke. He had grey eyes and a cut on his left eyebrow.
The young child appeared to be at least 4 years old with russet, brown skin and beady eyes. He was wearing a necklace with tooth. He kept staring at me intensely while sucking on his thumb.
"How old are you?" I asked the teenaged boy.
"Nineteen, lass. The name's Andrew. Tis wee lad is Chaske. And your name, miss?"
"I'm Evie, short for Evangeline. How did you guys end up here?"
"Now that, lass. That's a long story. I was part of bad deal gone wrong between my father and Captain Bonnet. My father owed Bonnet some money, dad didn't have it, and Dad died because this reason." He said.
"That must have been awful. You don't seem phased."
"I've made peace with it a long time ago. My dad was a good man but he was also a gambler that affected us more than we expected."
"You have more family?" I asked curious on his response.
"Aye, a little sister. She was just babe when all that happened. Tis in the past now, lassie. Now, I write letters to her whenever I can. My auntie watches over her."
I start eating the food in front of me: porridge and bread. I taste one bite of it and I wince at the bad taste. It has no flavor, seasoning and it doesn't even taste remotely decent. It was so bland.
This meal brings me to my high school lunches which at least were slightly edible but this........This wasn't it. This needs to change. Maybe, I share my food recipes with the chef and change the meals into something more tasty and savory.
Andrew notices the look on my face and throws his head back to chuckle. The native boy bites back a smile.
"By the look of face, I'd say you don't like your supper. I know it tastes like utter bullshit but you'll get use to it. Trust me, you learn to live with it. Ale keeps me full when the meals aren't enough."
