"If I have to wait another hour in this stupid airport I'm going to fly the plane myself," Renjun grumbled into the phone. He was clearly not in a good mood. His day had started earlier than usual because he needed to be at the airport three hours before his flight time, which was ironically booked for 8 am out of Korea. But luck ran thin because his flight kept getting delayed due to bad weather.
"Snow is very unpredictable," Donghyuck chuckled on the other end of the call. "Be happy they're putting you and the other passengers' safety first."
"Screw them," Renjun huffed out. He was definitely not having it.
"Calm down," his friend said, "it's not that deep, okay?"
"Yeah, yeah, I know. I just needed a moment."
"Don't you always," Renjun's heart fluttered at the small giggling sounds the other made. He always thought it was the cutest thing his ears would ever hear. "Text me once you board the plane. Mark and I are going to say goodbye to Jeno and Jaemin."
"Okay," Renjun reluctantly replied. His heart still ached from Donghyuck declining his request to come to China with him just so he could stay on campus with Mark. What did he expect though? Mark was Donghyuck's childhood best friend and crush while he was just Donghyuck's friend.
"Love you," Donghyuck made a kissing sound before hanging up the call. Renjun knew he meant nothing by it. Donghyuck has always been one to show affection to the people around him, even to Jisung. Which was why Renjun knew he had no right to blame the other for being hurt. It was his fault for pretending that maybe there was hope for them in the future.
"Are you boarding the same flight?" Renjun heard someone ask. He was so deep in thought he hadn't realized passengers were now being called. "Yes, sorry— Lucas?" Just when the boy thought his day couldn't get any worse his annoying roommate had to show up.
"You didn't tell me you were going to China for Christmas, Injunie," Lucas grinned. Unlike the younger male, Lucas enjoyed being around Renjun for obvious reasons. One, Renjun always had the cutest reactions, and two, Renjun was cute. Pretty valid reasons if you asked him.
"I didn't think I needed to," Renjun rolled his eyes, standing from the hard chair and pulling his small suitcase behind him. "Let me carry it for you," the older offered as he ran behind him.
"I got it," Renjun mumbled. He didn't want to spend another second around the older male nor did he wish to owe him anything. He honestly didn't know why Lucas still tried to become friends with him. From the start, Renjun made it clear he didn't want to even hold a conversation with him. Yet here they were, sitting side by side on a flight to their hometown while Lucas insisted on endlessly talking.
How did he get so unlucky to book the seat beside the older male? Renjun couldn't answer that himself. He concluded that maybe his ancestors were so evil that their entire bloodline must've gotten cursed because of their actions.
After they arrived in China, Lucas continued to stay glued to Renjun. He went with him to get their bags and followed him to the exit where the younger's parents awaited for him with a large 'welcome home' sign.
