"mixed feelings"

"Why didn't you tell me?" Jisung examined the worried expression on Chenle's face only for a brief moment before turning his head towards the hospital's window.

"I'll be out tomorrow anyway," he muttered.

"That's not the point, Jisung," Chenle replied. It took five days of anxious thinking and a visit to the other's house for Chenle to find out from Jaemin that Jisung was in the hospital. And the worse part was, not only was the other set on ignoring his text messages, but he was also reading them in the process. "I had to find out from your brother...someone who I hardly know about your whereabou-"

"It's not like you know me any better," Jisung snapped, cutting the Chinese's sentence short. He didn't mean to say it, not like that. He shakily lifted his hand to Chenle to apologize but the other stepped back while while clearing his throat.

"You're right actually, I don't." Jisung could hear the hurt in the silver haired boy's voice, and god, did that make him feel shitty. "Anyway, I just wanted to check on you and bring you some food. I know the hospital food must be trash. At least that's how it is back in China—"

"Chenle-"

"I'll talk to you later, yeah?" Chenle showed the other a short small before grabbing his bag and walking out the door. Jisung mentally cursed himself for speaking to the other like that. He wasn't purposely ignoring him...not in the way Chenle thought he was.

Jisung didn't want the boy to see him so weak, to see his ugly.

"Mr. Park?" Jisung heard a soft knock come from behind the door. He wasn't in the mood for his daily run through with his nurse; but if he wanted to leave then he knew it was better to just cooperate.

"Come in," Jisung said as he properly sat back against the bed head.

"Someone's here to see you." The nurse timidly spoke behind the crack door. "Your aunt-"

"How about you get back to your job and let me speak with my nephew." Jisung's face grew pale at the familiar face that walked through the door. Just like always, her face held a smug expression as she knowingly eyed the boy.

"Eunji," Jisung said through gritted teeth. Now wasn't the time for some family bullshit. Jaemin didn't know this, but Jisung never severed contact with her completely. Even when he tried to, the woman always found a way to have him crawling back and eating out the palm of her hands.

"Oh, my poor baby," Eunji walked over to touch Jisung's face but the boy turned his head the opposite way. "Jisung-"

"What do you want, Eunji?"

"Changmin told me that you were here-"

"Why the fuck do you have your boyfriend doing my check ups?" Jisung snapped at the older woman. It was already enough that he felt like he was always walking on egg shells around her, but having people connected to her continuously watch him was by far bat shit crazy.

"He's a good doctor and your back, of course, needs special attention." Eunji took a short pause before continuing, "when will you be coming home, Jisung? I miss you." She nervously said to the boy, her eyes shaking as she struggled to decide if she should attempt to touch Jisung again.

"I'm not coming home." Jisung stared the woman deep into her eyes before saying, "you're a shitty human being, Eunji. After everything you said to Jaemin that day...you really think I would come back?"

"Why do we need to keep going through this?" Eunji raised her voice slightly. She didn't understand why Jisung would always choose Jaemin over her when he was never the one providing for him. "Your attachment to Jaemin is unnatural. So what if I told him to move out, he was going to anyway!"

Jisung scoffed as he listened to the woman in front of him make up excuses for herself. "You really think it's about that? Take a hint, Eunji. I heard you tell Jaemin that he was as worthless as our mother and that he should just kill himself! What type of person says that to their own family?"

"I didn't mean it, Jisung, please!" There were tears forming in Eunji's eyes, but Jisung hardly felt moved by them, wanting nothing more than for the woman to leave his room.

"Why are you here?" Jisung sighed. "We agreed to only see each other twice a month."

As far as the boy could remember, their aunt always treated Jaemin indifferently; but in a way that even he took extremely long to realize. However, every time he brought it up to his older brother, Jaemin would always brush it off with a smile and say it was his imagination.

And after the incident that caused Jaemin to move out permanently, Jisung finally realized how fucked up Eunji was. When he decided to leave her as well, the woman threatened to cut Jaemin off from all finances.

Jisung knew his brother would be able to handle himself, but he also knew the stress would be too much on him. Hence why he made a deal with their aunt by agreeing to visit her twice a month once she kept paying for Jaemin's college tuition.

It wasn't completely horrible, but pretending to be a happy family with Eunji was something Jisung never understood why she desperately and obsessively clung on to. Once again, proving his point that she was bat shit crazy.

"You needed me, baby," Eunji smiled weakly. "As soon as I heard-"

"Needed you?" Jisung's face morphed into a frown before continuing, "the last thing I need is you."

"I would tone down on that attitude of yours, Jisung." The woman's voice quickly became stern as she gripped onto her purse tighter. "Seeing that I saw your brother just a few days ago I'm thinking maybe I should pay him a little visit to catch up. Perhaps recommend a few places for him to work at while taking a break from school."

Great. She was being manipulative again.

"Forget it, Eunji, I'm tired now." Jisung gave up as he rolled on his side. If he kept talking he knew he would be playing into her tricks. "I'll come see you once I'm discharged."

"Wonderful." Eunji perked up, leaning over the boy to plant a small kiss to his forehead. Jisung grimaced at the feeling that was once soothing to him when he was younger. After a few seconds, Jisung heard the door slam behind him.
At that moment, there was nothing more Jisung wanted to do than to smoke and calm his nerves.
