Ana.
Over here.
Open your eyes, please.
My whole body jolted awake as I made eye contact with a man who was nearing me. My eyes darted to his hand as it left my personal space. Utterly confused, I backed up.
"Anastasia De'Neer, I am the medicinal practitioner at Helsings estate. I was examining your head due to the injuries you've dealt." The man looked like the most human person here. He had a softer face with greener eyes than mine, but hints of gold around his iris. And he smelled so good too. Like apple spices and caramel.
"You had a brain bleed, but I have taken care of that," he said as he stood up from the bed and turned to Helsing who stood by his side. He looked mad, again. A short sigh left my lips before I turned my attention to the doctor.
"Thank you for whatever you did," I muttered out and crossed my arms.
"I need a moment with him, please lay back down and wait for food to be here. You need to fuel back up." The doctor slightly bowed his head and walked out of the room with Helsing right on his footsteps.
"Yeah, go on and leave, it's becoming typical for you," I whispered to myself.
There was nothing holding me back and I will keep that promise to myself. My head turned to look at the window and it had a latch. Relief settled my trembling hands. But maybe I should eat first. I have to plan my next escape better and more efficiently. Now I have Helsing and Levi on my hind legs with every step. Leaving is going to be more difficult with more guards on alert.
Helsing opened the door behind him as he entered and my soul left my body. He is mad.
The darkness succumbed to his figure as he strode his long legs over to me. His eyes were darker today, the ruby red being a sliver of color to his eyes. The way his lips pursed against each other, he was contemplating something to say. Rather awkward silence as I returned the eye contact.
"We need to talk, Miss De'Neer. When were you going to be honest about yourself?" he said so coldly. His hands were behind his back, making his black tunic hug his torso. He wasn't as slim as he looked. My eyes deceived me.
"You can't blame me for trying to leave," I rolled my eyes and looked away. Shifting my eyes towards his desk then the candles that had dancing flames.
"Not that, damn it!" His cool was lost and he brought a hand through the strands of onyx hair that slipped from his ponytail. All of his composure was all but relaxed. Before I could greet his body once more with my eyes, his hand grasped my chin and tilted my attention back to him.
"You're not a De'Neer. What are you?"
Confusion didn't settle nicely in the pit of my stomach as anxiety was churning. "I don't understand what you're trying to get at this time."
"You are a subspecies, you have an ounce of mortality to you," his eyes were staring so deep into mine I didn't understand what he said the first time until my mind played it out the second time.
"I- you're delusional. My parents are human. We live in the West. What did that doctor do?" I asked, pulling away from his grip. My chest almost hurt from how shallow I breathed.
"He did nothing but find the truth. You didn't know?" He backed up from me and maybe the smaller amount of pity was written in his expression but I turned away. I didn't want to play another mental game.
He huffed out and walked to his desk. My eyes followed him. What is he on about?
"I'm on about you, Anastasia! You're something different, I don't know what since you radiate no other scent but lavender and cherries. Even your blood smells sweet," he added as he grabbed a silver pointed pick. It looked like a letter opener but slimmer.
