Shes New

"YN come on you'll be late to school!" My mom shouts. Today is my first day of 5th grade. I'm nervous but I'll go with the flow.

"IM COMING!" I yell as I stuff my drawing supplies into my backpack just in case I eventually get bored.

I run to the car were my mom sits with a patient but angry look. I chuckle as I get into the passenger seat and nod to my mom letting her know i'm ready to go.

"Have fun at school today sweetheart okay? If anything happens tell the office, and try to make some friends. I know it's going to be hard but it's going to be better than Florida okay?" She looks at me with worry in her eyes.

I nod and say, "Mom i'm going to be okay! This is a new place, nothing like Florida. Maybe I'll be seen in a different light and I'll make some friends. That's not a promise though." I say smiling.

"I love you kid." "I love you too mom."

I hop out of the car, about to walk into the school when someone almost runs over my foot!

"Hey be careful!" I say, as they suddenly stop their bike. I look up and see a boy with a striped tee-shirt and a long bowl haircut.

"Hey, I'm sorry. My names Will Byers. You?

"YN Adams" I say while placing my hand out for him to shake.

"You know, I should get going to the principals office, I'll see you later Will!" I say while smiling, knowing I just made a new friend.

I walk over to the principals office and walk in, seeing no one was in his presence. "Oh Hello Miss! You must be YN Adams?" he says in an orotund tune. "Hey, yeah I am. Sorry I didn't knock." I say sounding very wobbly.

"Oh don't worry, let's get you your schedule. I have it righttttt... here." He says while looking for some papers. He looks very professional I have to say.

I was nervous, new school, new life. This changed everything from what I had been through in Florida. No one was going to know me like everyone did in Florida.

"Thank you so much Mr. Coleman!" I say while grabbing the papers. " No problem! I'll take you to your first class if that's alright?" "Yeah, that would be great.

We walk into the class room, everyone looks to the door we are standing at. "This is the new student, all yours!" The principal says as he gives me a fist bump then leaves. "Why hello! Would you like to introduce yourself to the class?" The teacher says as I give him a weird look. I turn around to look at the students and take a deep breath. But then, I see someone I notice. It's Will. Will Byers. My first friend. He gives me a thumbs up and whispers "You got this".

I finally build up the courage to speak and say. Hi! I'm YN Adams, I moved here from Florida and I'm excited to have you guys as my classmates.

I get a few welcomes and hellos here and there. I look at the teacher and look at him with a questioning look, wondering where to sit. He points to a chair next to a kid with a hat that says "Thinking Cap".

He looks at me and smiles even though, he has no teeth. I smile back, waving to him.

Another new friend?
