Ethan POV:
After our dinner with the Morales I was not very happy, and I'm usually not happy in general but this was annoying. I don't need a babysitter besides I could of just asked one of my friends to hang out during the afternoons I had a feeling there was something dad wasn't telling me but I didn't push it. When we entered our big house I let out a large sigh and went to go up to my room but was stopped by my mom. "Oh Ethan your back! How did the dinner go?" she asked stopping me from going up the stairs, I shrugged and sighed "I don't know it was fine- I don't know why dad was so interested in learning Tori's Element of course she's gonna be a Flora like her mom and sister." I said rolling my eyes maybe that and the fact that I had to try not to look at Tori the entire time we were eating dinner she was just so... my heart felt like butter just thinking about her so I cleared my throat hoping to change the subject. "Oh interesting! So did your father speak to you yet about anything?" I knew what she was playing at when she said this.
"Yes dearest mother, he told me I was going to spend ever fricking day at the Morales' house for some unknown reason." I said sarcasm evident in my voice. My mom frowned "y'know you could be nice and stop talking like that all the time- either that or I could easily force you to." she said with a knowing smile; Mom was a Faye she told me that her and dad's marriage was arranged by both their Pure families when they couldn't find another Faye for her to marry. "So why does dad care about the Morales so much?" I couldn't help asking. My mom frowned once again and I sighed "your face is going to freeze like that if you keep making those faces." Mom chuckled but she didn't say anything. "You know Lyla Fleur married John Morale not thirty years ago correct?" she asked in a matter-of-fact tone. I nodded not sure where this was going.
"Well John was believed to be an Elemental and is still believed to have been an Elemental... and we well your father thought that it might have been passed onto one of John's children. Floras are definitely one of the more dominant genes, which is why it was no surprise that Marilyn Morale became a Flora but Victoria Addison was odd in a way-" I tried to keep a straight face at the mention of Tori, I remembered her embarrassed face when her mom brought up her full name but I still couldn't help thinking it was one of the most beautiful things about her. Wait what was I talking about?! "-Anyway" my mom interrupted my thoughts "Victoria Addison never really showed the signs of becoming a Flora when she was fifteen and then sixteen she didn't show any signs either... and then at school when you brought her into the nurse's office." I stiffened "when did you see that?!" I demanded, "If you or dad were spying on me again then-" My mother cut me off with a smile "No we heard from the nurse." she said quickly before continuing.
I scoffed at this reply but let her continue. "The nurse described her eyes as well changing which is a sure way to tell if someone is an Elemental. Clearly your father and my suspicions were wrong but your father wanted to make sure she wasn't lying so-" I cut her off now I was just down right angry "So you want me to spy on her?!" I shouted making her flinch. "I can't believe you! And what happens to her if she is an Elemental, huh? I saw her face she was terrified of dad I don't want her to look at me like that!" Mom didn't say anything her eyes downcast. Then I heard the voice of my father "If she is an Elemental she could ruin me! I don't care if she's a child if I find out that girl is an Elemental I'm going to kill her." his voice was serious and I knew he wasn't joking. I wanted to say something to convince him not to make me go to her house but I knew it was wiser to try and protect her from him so I just stormed up to my room.
From my window I could see Tori's apartment building but I didn't know which window was hers from the outside of the building. It looked small for their family I knew her mom worked at my dad's company; he gave her the job when John 'abandoned' them, So Lyla obviously had a good amount of money but she continued to live in a small apartment. "Ethan come down please!" I heard my mom yell I just rolled my eyes and went to close the door with my foot. "I have homework to do!" I lied, the truth was I didn't want to see my horrible parents. I sighed and called one of my friends, Derek. "Hey Ethan, what's up?" he asked me, "Are you driving somewhere?" I asked when I heard the sound of a car. "What? Oh yeah driving, yeah I'm just driving with Matt, Liz, and Zira to the bowling alley, you wanna come?" he answered. I shook my head and answered "Nah man that's alright I don't really wanna feel like a third wheel." "C'mon you still don't have a girlfriend and your how old?" Derek taunted. "No I don't the only reason any girl wants to date me is because they want something from my dad." I hissed with a sigh.
