Panama Canal

I watched him leave at dawn
Not even the sun was wide awake
But I was
Full of anxiety for the unknown
The light orange sky
Shooed the deep purple away
But I wasnt so open to change
It was not so easy living here in 1888
So I understand that he had to leave
I had a baby on my chest
And one tugging at my skirt
Unbeknowest to them that you will be a distant memory
Panama wasn't so far
I whispered
Letting my warm breath fall on my baby's ear
Thinking I'm reassuring her
When I was really reassuring myself
The ship set sail
Taking with it my peace of mind
And now 1968
I begged them to carry me to the old port one more time
To await your return
That's when I saw the light orange shoo away the deep purple
And I knew you were here.
