Shortly after Robert leaves the Office, William leaves too. There’s no point in being there if the others aren’t.
He texts his wife: ‘Going out for a work lunch, see you later. Love you x’
He boards the train to London and gets off at Picadilly; he’s going to the Ritz. When he arrives, he finds his lunch date already sat down at their table.
“William,” the man sighs, standing up to gently kiss the businessman and guide him to his chair. They both sit. They aren’t there for a work lunch.
Maybe part of the reason William is so angry is because he is confused, or maybe it's because he feels he must lie and hide his feelings. He knows he loves his wife, Jessica, but he also knows he loves Matt. He’s stuck. So he keeps Jess a secret from Matt, and Matt a secret from Jess.
If anyone were to find out where he is today, who he is with, the nature in which they are meeting, his life would change for the worse. Forget just being fired, he’d be killed. It’s not just that he’s with a man, in fact, it’s not that at all. It’s the fact that the man he’s with, Matt, is part of the underground revolution set up to destroy Chris Scott.
He’s well and truly stuck.
