You can be a cat person, bird person, hamster, fish or whatever pet suits you. However everyone can agree that when you see a puppy you lose your mind. It's like cupid shoots an arrow and you instantly fall in love with it. You can't lie and tell me you don't drop to your knees, making a fool out of yourself with that baby voice and enjoy getting slobbered on by a three pound fur ball. There's a lot of us out here that have pulled over in the middle of traffic just to pick up the little guy on the side of the road to take him home with us.

That's exactly what I did tonight. Well I didn't pull over because I didn't have a car but as I was walking I heard a little whimper and a howl. Not too far ahead of me was this little black puppy. He had his paw stuck on some of the trash that was scattered by the storm drain. Hoping to god that the clown from IT doesn't appear, I crouched down and gently start removing the trash. It was wrapped around some rope that was tied to a cement block.

Now see I'm not a violent person but if I ever find the person that not only just left this little guy here but tied him down with a rope in the middle of the night, when it's pouring rain then I'd love to personally reenact with him that infamous scene from Misery with Kathy Bates. Yes I really mean that I would do it to him.

When I finally got him free he jumped in my arms and cuddled up close to me. Either for warmth or protection or both. It didn't matter to me, I wasn't about to leave him here. Unzipping my coat a bit I placed him inside and began walking back to my house. I was a bit colder with him being wet and soaking my shirt but I wanted to get his shivering to stop.

He whimpered again when I took him out of my jacket and placed him in the tub. Turning on the water making sure it was warm, I started bathing him. Good lord was he filthy. Despite being scared in the rain, he was very well behaved when it came to the bath. No barking or whining or trying to jump out. Drying was easy too. I kept him wrapped in a dry towel to ensure that he didn't get too cold and I went to get some food from my fridge that was suitable for dogs, especially puppies.

"Tomorrow we'll go to the vet to see what shots you need and then to the store to get you a whole bunch of stuff. How's that sound? You wanna live with me?" I ask him as if he was going to actually respond to me. However he did answer with licking my nose and wagging his tail. I'll take that as a yes. When he finished his food, he got out of the towel and curled beside me in bed.

"I'm going to call you Canis, seems a little fitting." By the time I laid down and got comfortable he was snoring away.

Working from home had its perks. I wouldn't have to worry about leaving little Canis alone where he could get into all kinds of trouble. I know he's a puppy and it's expected he make a mess. I don't mind cleaning up pee or poop. I meant where he accidently eats something that can be harmful. Plus I get to set my own schedule and spend more time with him.

The vet visit was perfect, they gave him his shots and he only growled once. I only had to tell him that it was going to be ok one time and he settled right back down quickly. It was obvious from looking at him but the nurse had to still inform me that he was a pitbull for "safety" reasons since the breed was labeled as a dangerous one.

I could tell with the look in her eyes and her tone of voice that she agreed with me what horse shite that was. Every breed is capable of causing harm and injury. Even those tiny chihuahuas which if you ask me are the worst since they do in fact bite more people than most breeds. If it's got teeth and knows how to bite, then it don't matter the size. But I do understand her reason behind having to tell me. Lucky for the three of us, Pitbulls happen to be my favorite dog. Irish wolfhounds are my second.

Shopping at the pet store was fun and adorable. I got him his collar, a leash, few toys which he picked out and actual puppy food. Sure my wallet was a lot lighter afterwards but it was worth seeing him jump around all excited with every toy he would pick up. Another bright side would be that with so many toys, hopefully he wouldn't chew on anything else he wasn't supposed to. Most likely not but I did say hopefully.
