The children awoke with grumbling stomachs and tired feet. "Zachary what's for breakfast?" Mumbled Carter. " Well we ate half a loaf of bread last night and one muffin so we will have the rest of the loaf and the last muffin." Zachary said. "That sounds good." Said Rosalie, "but what about eggs from the chicken pen over there?" "Rosalie you are so smart!" Squealed Aurora. The children ran as fast as the could go the chicken pen. Lilith swung open the gate and there were 5 chickens running around. "Look at this!" Cried Zachary! There were eggs high and low located all over the pen. Carter couldn't handle himself. "Is this what the Easter bunny did!" Laughed Carter. "I guess so!" Chuckled Lilith. "Get all the eggs!" Cried Zachary! The children collected eggs until no more eggs could be found. "How many eggs did we collect?" Asked Rosalie. "10" said Aurora. "Well look now we have breakfast for a while!" Said Zachary. "If only we had a fire to cook them... "Well" said Aurora and Lilith in a excited tone. "We know how to cook them and the forest a little ways back down the path we think would have really good firewood!" "That's a swell idea Aurora." Said Zachary "and I suppose that we won't be found in the forest." The children started back onto the path hoping to cook the eggs and have a nice night but suddenly they heard the sound of a wagon rolling down the path coming towards them. "Zachary I'm scared" said Carter grabbing Zachary's hand. " We need to run as fast as we can to the hay pile." The children ran like they had never ran before. They dove into the hay pile and waited. Slowly but surely a wagon rolled by carrying the baker and the baker's wife. "Those children couldn't have gone far!" "They wouldn't have made it to gold city." "We will check gold city and if we can't find them we will turn around." The children waited patiently until they were long gone.
