Chapter XXIX: Tabora Vault

With a swirl of Mobilium energy, the two girls arrived upon the site. Only now did Val understand how Ria managed to be all over the place when she was alone or with only another companion. The Sendaris had been quiet the entire journey, always checking behind her to cover their tracks while Val always silently moved forwards, ensuring that the track in front of them was clean.

Even still, it took a little more than two days for them to reach their destination, a location on the north of Crown Peak's borders. And when they did, both of them found themselves dumbfounded.

It was a massive hole , a cavern almost that went straight down several hundred meters. And built into the walls was a complex. There was only one way in, and only one way out. It was a vault. Both of them were peering over a rock behind some foliage, watching the light tower in the very center scan the surroundings.

"Tabora Vault," Val whispered. "The second-most secure complex in all of Conchord, and third-most to the Great Vault in Crown Peak."

She looked slowly towards Ria. The Sendaris seemed unfazed.

"I have handled such before," Was all she said before leaping over the rock and inching closer, low to the ground.

Val exhaled before following her. The two surveyed the scene before them. The only possible way they would be entering the complex successfully was to make a direct assault through the main entrance.

"This cannot be done," Val said, shaking her head. "Look how many personnel they have."

"Do something apart from complaining," Ria said tartly. "And I came well-prepared."

Val turned to face the other now. Either the Sendaris was really crazy this time, or she was bent upon shedding a truckload of blood before going down. And neither of those seemed appealing in the slightest. 

"We have no backup," Val said. "We do not even have suitable weapons. I only have a pistol, and that is it."

"You want out? Then run off if you must," Ria replied. "You did your job."

"Are you serious?"

"Yes," The Sendaris said without hesitation. "Now leave me alone."

Ria tied her hair back into a bun before rubbing her shoulders and elbows. Val was incredulous, but backing off now was hardly an option. Even now, she wouldn't ever leave Ria to fend for herself all alone, no matter how 'invincible' the Sendaris thought herself to be.

"Fine," Val said as Ria donned her infamous mask. "Count me in."

"The Mobilium Prime," The guard murmured. "Shame humans aren't capable of wielding power naturally like this."

"Of course we can," A second said, holding up yet another one of the gauntlets. "Synthetic alternatives do the job just fine."

"I don't know dude, charging batteries every few hours isn't really my thing."

"It lasts much longer than that for your information," The second said. "But suit yourself. While I'll probably be out there in the action, you'll be assigned to stand patrol over these stupid vaults."

"You wish-"

Both were erupted by a tremendous rumble, followed by the harsh blare of the wall-mounted sirens. The entire government complex was soon on high alert, personnel rushing to their emergency stations.

"What's going on out there?" The first guard asked, nervous.

"I dunno," The second replied, making to join the others. "You stay there, alright?"
