Chapter 14: The Yule Ball cont.

I watched the twins make their way over to the staff table; who I believed to be George went straight to Mcgonagall, and who I believed to be Fred went to my very own head of house: Professor Sprout. I saw the two ladies smile and allow the twins to take them to the dance floor; I looked over to Severus, who was still staring intensely at me as I walked back toward the man clad in black.

"Would it still be inappropriate?" I asked gingerly; Severus sighed next to me.

"I suppose not" he hooked his arm into mine, and we set off to join the others.

He snaked an arm around my waist as I put an arm around his neck, my hand gently brushing against his hair, he proceeded to take my hand in his, and we started dancing. Almost melting into each other, "I see Sprout taught you rather well", he said after a few moments; I smiled dumbly. The buzz of alcohol had made me cocky, and I laid my head on his shoulder, fully aware of how his body felt against mine. When I looked up at him, he still looked displeased.

"Are you enjoying yourself, Sev?" I whispered into his ear.

"People are staring, Bane," he said back softly,

"Let them forget about everything for a few moments, just enjoy" I had the intense urge to kiss him just then, and I would've if we were alone. I had a feeling he was reading my thoughts because he gave me a stern look after I thought this.

At the end of the second song, we were no longer dancing but more swaying together; he now had both hands around my waist and mine were clasped together at the back of his neck, my head was on his shoulder, and his chin rested on the top of my head. When the song ended, he pulled away, "I'm sorry, it would draw too much attention if I stayed" he gave another faint smile as he walked away. I noticed most of the other teachers had already stopped dancing with the students and were back to chaperoning, except for Lupin, who was now having the time of his life with Serenity and Sapphire.

I walked over to them, "Did you give Lupin alcohol?" I asked Kara when I got there; she only nodded with a big grin.

"I don't think we're allowed to get teachers drunk", I answered, staring at Lupin, slightly mortified.

"Saw you and Snape over there," she said, still grinning and completely changing subjects.

"Was it that noticeable?" I asked her,

She let out a rather loud laugh, "Noticeable? Almost the whole school noticed; it's not every day the dungeon bat gets some action, and for once, he didn't look like some asshole waiting to bite someone's head off."

I gulped, the whole school would be talking about it tomorrow, and it would be the big news when the break was over.

"Where's Draco?" I asked her, but she only shrugged and handed me a flask. I took a too big gulp and decided to join the rest of them and partied it up with the girls and Lupin. Who I'm sure was absolutely hammered, judging by the far away and glazed stare he had.

After another hour or two, I realised just how drunk I was and decided to get some overdue fresh air. The room was spinning, and I had started feeling sick; I glanced around desperately trying to find Severus but was so drunk that everyone looked the same. I removed myself from the huddle we had created, the others too drunk to notice my absence and slipped away from the Great Hall.

I found myself standing on the stairs to the entrance of Hogwarts; the cold air was sobering. I stayed standing there for quite a while, afraid that if I sat down, I wouldn't get back up; I was deep in thought about Severus and how he started to let his walls down around me slightly. He was quite the opposite compared to the awful things I heard about him in the hallways.
