Danica Green was packing her suitcase, preparing for what she didn't realize would be her last "normal" summer in Cousins.
Her best friend, Amaya, laid on her side, scrolling through TikTok and occasionally spared the brunette a glance.

"Do think this summer will be different?" voiced Amaya, she knew all about her best friends rivalry with the eldest Fisher brother, she would never tell Danica this but she had always thought they would be a great couple.

Amaya visited for 2 weeks every summer. She was always there as the last week of June bled into July.

"What do you mean? we do the same shit every summer, I guess we'll be going to more parties and shit like that because we're officially cool kids"

After turning 16 in the end of July, Danica's last week of summer was amazing, the previous year she was able to go out late like the boys and go to parties. She finally felt like she wasn't a little kid around them.

"Fuck yea the boys finally can't hold us back from doing dumb shit just like them. The two weeks i'm there with you are going to be amazing. If we leave the beach still virgins i'm going to cry" Amaya dramatically sat up just to flop back down and let out a exasperated sigh.

Danica rolled her eyes at her best friend and through a pillow at her. This action resulted in Amaya swinging the nearest pillow at Danica and attacking her, she tackled her and began violently hitting her while laughing.

Danica retaliated with yanking the pillow straight from the other girls hands and sending her a slight glare with a small smirk forming on her rosy lips. Amaya's eyes went wide, "oh shit" she hopped up and ran straight out of the room down to the kitchen. She found shelter behind the lovely Joanne Green.

Mrs. Green was a widow, she had been through hell. When Danica was 6 years old, Joanne and her late husband Anthony were expecting a second child. Sadly that pregnancy resulted in a miscarriage, Joanne's heart was broken by this event.

The next few years only proved to be even tougher on the woman as her husband passed when Danica was 9 years old as a result of a drunk driver slamming into his car.

Joanne powered through those years and never looked back, she did everything she could to give her daughter the best life she could.

Joanne Green was formally known as Joanne Baker, this was back when she first befriended Laurel Park and Susannah Beck. The three had been friends far longer than Danica's life time. For as long as the girl could remember, Laurel and Susannah were there.

Susannah taught her how to use a pad when Danica ran into the beach house sobbing because she didn't know why blood was all over her shorts.

Laurel helped her become a better reader by always encouraging her to read and working with her in her summer homework every year. Danica couldn't imagine where she would be if it weren't for the holy trinity of mothers she was blessed to have.

Joanne rolled her eyes at the girls and laughed. She grabbed the pillow from her daughters hands.

"Don't you two think you're a little too old for a pillow fight?"

The two teens glanced at each other and broke into a fit of laughter.

"Mom, you really think you can out grow pillow fights?"

Danica took the pillow back and whacked her mother with it. She slowly back away before breaking into a sprint realizing her mother was on her tail.

Joanne caught up, took the pillow, smacked her daughter with it, then peacefully walked away with a smile on her face.
