After getting settled in, Danny laid out by the pool. She opened her current read, 'Ugly Love' by Colleen Hoover and shuffled her playlist, 'Lovers Rock' began to play.

Life can't get any better than right now.

Until Conrad walked out onto the back porch. He pulled out and cigarette and lit it up.

"Do you really have to be out here right now? I felt so at peace until you walked out" Danny lowered her book and turned towards her unwanted company.

"You don't own the deck." He rolled his eyes at her as she just stared at him.

"Since when do you smoke?" she asked as she turned back to her book.

"Since when do you care?" He responded, blowing the smoke from his softly curved up lips.

That god damn smirk. again.

"It's not that I care, it's that I'm sitting here inhaling your second hand smoke"

He blew the smoke from his lips towards her, causing Danny to cough and turn away.

"ugh rude, listen up jackass i'm just trying to read and enjoy the pool. Am I that un resistible that you have to be here too?" Danny threw a smirk his way along with a slight side eye.

His blue eyes peered at her, "I can't exactly do this inside, so i'm out here, whether you like it or not." He wiggled his cig between his fingers. The same way a child does with their pencil when bored in class.

Yet, after the comment Danny made, he made a point to only hit the cig once more before slowly exhaling and rising to the his feet. He stood over Danica for a second, just observing her.

She definitely grew up a bit since last summer.

She could feel his eyes tracing over her, goosebumps rose on her skin as she suddenly felt insecure.

But why do I care what he thinks?

Danica lowered to her book over her stomach and looked at Conrad.

"Are you done checking me out yet?" His cheeks reddened realizing he had been caught staring.

"You wish, Green" He quickly turned away, grabbed a towel and began to dry his legs.

Danny felt a smile begin to form on her lips as she watched Conrad's back enter the house.

What the hell is going on with me? With him? Fuck hormones.

Everyone was sat around the dining table, Jeremiah had just thrown Stevens phone across the room and caused everyone to laugh, the way he always does.

An awkward silence rang throughout the room after Steven asked about Conrad's football camp.

No one besides the Fishers knew that the oldest brother had quit.

"wait really you quit?" Steven was confused.

"mhm" Conrad nodded, a slightly hostile tone came from him as college football was mentioned.

Thankfully, Laurel slightly changed the subject my asking what he would do throughout the summer, to that Jeremiah beamed and suggested his brother worked with the other boys at the country club.

Danica was silent through most of the dinner, she didn't have much input on the matters being discussed.

Spontaneously, Susannah hopped out of her chair, "Belly! I have something for you!" She handed her an invite to the debutante ball.
