Whispers followed her around, they clung onto her like a second skin and she could feel the stares directed at her as Lan Xing stalked down the hospital corridor with a frigid, blank face. She didn't understand why or how, but the entire world seemed to be talking about her at this point. When she realised people were 'exposing' her dark past on the internet, Lan Xing had initially thought she was hallucinating.

But she wasn't, it was genuinely happening, and it almost seemed as if the whole world was talking about it. Shouldn't the news die off quickly and fade out of existence? It wasn't as if Lan Xing was a particularly famous person, the only reason it blew up was because of that accursed video.

The video of her pouring a glass of juice on her ex-boyfriend's head.

All because of that video, she's suddenly this villainess woman who knew nothing but how to scheme, target men, and apparently even hooked up at the bars often. Every time someone brought her up, that video would definitely show up. Fine, she was wrong to do what, but so is giving money to a person you're dumping. It's demeaning.

When the hospital door was slid open, Lan Xing almost felt as if a weight was lifted off her at the sight of her brother sleeping. She walked in quietly and sat down by his side, her fingers twitched before she reached out to grab his hand. Pressing her forehead downwards, Lan Xing is reminded once more that in this world, only her brother was left to care about her.

Her constant obsessive dedication to working eventually distanced all her friends, with her rejecting their hang-out invites for either work or family, eventually, they stopped inviting her own. They had no parents, no relatives, and only a handful of money left. Lan Xing also was now facing a crazy time finding a new job, especially with the black materials she had.

"Ming'er, you can't leave me, okay?" Lan Xing whispered. If her brother died, if the only person left in this world who could truly love her unconditionally had gone away, she might just end up killing herself. Lan Xing wouldn't be able to survive living in such a world.

Ding! Ding! Ding! Sharp bells rang in the silent room, Lan Xing hurriedly released her brother's hand to fish out her mobile phone. She slid the screen to accept the phone call, holding up to her ears to hear the sound of a woman speaking.

"Hello, Miss Lan Xing?" The woman asked.

Lan Xing nodded, a second later she realised she did something stupid and quickly responded verbally. "Yes, I'm Lan Xing. You are?"

"My name is He Shiyi, the policewoman in charge of the poison case you filed a few days ago," She replied in a very perfunctory tone of voice. "Initially, we wanted to question if you have offended anyone but with the recent news on the internet, we can conclude that both incidents have a 30% chance of being related."

Lan Xing swallowed. Her mind swirled in confusion. Enemies. Right. "What's this call for?"

"I want you to open a defamation case, Miss Lan Xing, to sue the perpetrator. We have successfully narrowed down the suspects to three different people who have committed multiple acts of cyberviolence and bullying directed toward you. The current advice is for you to hire a lawyer and cooperate with the police to close this case."

There was silence for a moment, Lan Xing was trying to think about the situation. When she gathered her wits and was about to respond, He Shiyi seemed to speak up once more.

"Miss Lan Xing, I believe in you. Please make the right choice."

"Okay," Lan Xing whispered. "I'll be there, please contact a lawyer for me."

.

"And so, the plot thickens! Dun, dun, dun!" Shiba recited, completely narrating what happened between Lan Xing and He Shiyi in a dramatic manner. "Can you believe that there were so many people targetting Lan Xing, hose? This is so shocking! I wonder who are the people attacking her."
