chapter two: "playing guitar while I'm sleeping"
---mike and el had been hanging out for a week. they were nothing more then friends although el knew he wanted to be more. she wasn't ready but she could feel herself falling for the freckled face boy.
they were at that same park, under that same oak tree that was now surrounded with beautiful little flowers as spring had begun.
she was tying dandelions together to make a crown while resting her head in his lap.
he was smoking while reading her the remaining of her book.
"it's not about outward appearances but inward significance." she thought that was beautiful, "a self one does not want. a heart one cannot help."
he was growing bored so he marked the spot in the book, setting it next to him in the grass. he looked down at the brunette. her face was lit up from the sun.
there was the sound of children laughing and screaming in the distance and he couldn't help but feel, happy.
she finished her last delicate knot and looked up at him, meeting his eyes.
"hey" she spoke so softly, it made his heart flutter.
"hi" he tried his best to keep his emotions off his face but he couldn't help it. showing her a toothy grin.
she nudged for him to lean down a bit and she placed the crown on his head of unruly curls.
she smiled at the sight of the bad boy with a flower crown. he smiled at the sight of the happy girl who was the embodiment or sunshine and strawberries.
she sat up, making him frown at his now cold lap. she placed her flower crown on her head.
"now we match" her smile was big and he couldn't help but pull her into a hug.
"you're adorable" she giggled, sitting on his lap and smoothing out her pink dress with white frill on the bottom.
she was wearing her matching frilly socks with the same shoes she wore when they met. he loved the way she dressed, it was so cute.
she grabbed a zip lock out her bag. it had chocolate chip cookies in it. she opened the bag and handed one to mike and grabbed the other for herself.
"when did you make these?" she took a bite of her cookie and finished chewing before she answered.
"last night, when you fell asleep on the couch" she giggled remembering how he fell asleep while they watching the princess and the poper.
he rolled his eyes and took a bite of the soft cookie.
"holy shit. this is delicious"
"language!" she tried to be stern but failed when she started giggling.
she always was lecturing him about something. like him smoking or climbing through her bedroom window while he was drunk or that time he flipped off a cop car that ended up being el's dad.
he thought it was cute. a whole lot cuter then when his dad did it.
oh how mike hated his dad, if that's what you could even call him.
ted wheeler was always telling mike how much better he could be. criticizing the boy until there was nothing left of him except a lifeless body.
his mom always tried to look the other way. raising nancy and now holly was enough pressure for her. she tried to be there for mike but at some point he just pushed her away and she didn't know how to help.
