chapter three: "last forever"
---

3 weeks. it had been 3 weeks since el met mike.

the best 3 weeks of her life since her mother died.

she felt different around him. she felt safe.

he was the best thing that ever happened to her. and he had no idea.

no idea until today. el planned on telling mike she liked him.

she was nervous. what if she ruined her only friendship? what if she wasn't ready?

she tried to let the thoughts leave her mind as she picked out a frilly purple dress that she paired with frilly purple socks and white heels. she even did a little more makeup then her usual blush, mascara and lipgloss.

she put a fine layer of pink shadow on her eyelids and used a rose colored lip liner before putting her lipgloss over top. she put on the jewelry, that she made herself, and from one look at her, she looked how she normally did. which was good, she didn't want it to look like she put in too much effort.

she got her stuff ready and just as she was about to text mike, he knocked on her front door. she quickly made her way over and opened the door.

"hey pretty girl" she blushed at his words and walked out of the door

he was wearing a button down shirt, that was only half buttoned. along with some ribbed jeans and his usual, dirty vans, that he let her draw on.

she wanted to fix his hair but didn't want to be too touchy. so instead she just got into his car.

they drove while listening to 'its nice to have a friend' by taylor swift.

she couldn't help but smile at the irony of the song.

he held her hand as he drove, smiling to himself over how soft her hands were.

they had arrived at the park where they spent most of their time. this time he had brought a blanket for them to sit on.

once they were at their usual spot under the oak tree, he laid out the blanket.

they were lost in their thoughts. her head laid on his shoulder as they were both busy reading their own books.

suddenly el couldn't focus on 'the secret garden' anymore. she put the book down and looked at mike. she studied his face, which had become a bad habit of hers.

his black, curly hair. his freckles that covered his whole face and absorbed the sunlight. his sharp jawline.

suddenly she thought about kissing his jaw. so she did. she want even thinking when she did it.

just one featherlight kiss.

he looked to her, with shock painting his face into the deepest shades of red.

"i-um"

"sorry, was it... was it weird?"

he just stared at her. then he shook his head
