CHAPTER FOUR

The inside of the Rural Training Facility is massive; It's almost like a city, except the insides of the buildings don't have any evidence of life in them. I broke away from the crowd a while ago. I don't need anyone holding me back. It would be so much easier if I could fly, but I don't need any more attention than I already have.
I stop running in the middle of what looks to be a town square. I close my eyes and take a deep breath in through my nose, sniffing out all the bots around me.
Everything has a specific scent tied to it, and I was lucky enough that I got a small whiff of the bot's scent while I was defending Amai.
I sense about four bots surrounding me, but there is something else farther away— something huge. It doesn't seem to be moving at the moment, but I should probably check it out after I'm done with these bots.
I don't sense anyone else around me—they're all probably near the middle of the facility where the most bots are located, so it's moderately safe to show my wings again.
I splay my broad wings and take off into the air, spotting all four of the bots that are surrounding me. I blast two massive streams of fire from both of my hands, melting down half of the bots.
Two more remain, so I dart down to them while shaping my fire into blades and shear the bots clean in two.
Too easy. Those were three-pointers if I'm not mistaken. I must have not been paying attention to the massive bot in the middle of the Rural Training Facility, because I hear an ear-splitting boom come from that direction.
I jerk my head towards the sound, landing on the nearest roof. I can see the form of a massive bot rising above the buildings, screams echoing from that direction. I have to get over there before people get hurt.
The massive bot looks like the zero-pointer silhouette the announcer had shown us in the stadium. Why is it so big?! it's not even worth a single point! I can't get over there fast enough without flying, and I don't want anybody to get hurt because I wasn't there. I'll have to fly most of the way there and stop just out of sight, so they don't see my wings.
I leap off the roof and zoom towards the middle of the Rural Training Facility. I am just out of sight of everyone, so I land in a vacant side street and hide my wings.
I start sprinting towards the bot, needing to get there as fast as I possibly can, calling upon my wolf speed and running faster with a burst of speed. Upon arriving at the bot, I immediately feel a surge of fury.
Everybody is running away from the enormous bot, clearly not bothering to defeat it, but they are ignoring the girl that has her leg stuck under a mound of debris.
I surge forward faster than I have ever gone before. The bot about to step on her, and nobody is helping. Where are the teachers!? They're protectors, they should be doing something!
I barely register the thoughts racing through my brain, solely focusing on saving the girl, even though I don't know her. Reaching the foot of the bot, I leap up, using my wings—currently invisible—to propel myself upwards.
I reach the head of the bot, staring into its six red, gnarly eyes as I hang there suspended in the air. I yell at the top of my lungs, letting out the anger in my heart, my body bursting into a fury of blue flames.
Shooting my hands forward, I shift the flames coming off my body into a ball forming in my hands—compacting it. All the fire from my body is focused into this sphere.
          I let go.
It hits home and sends the bot flying across the Training Facility, My body starting to fall to the ground.
I end up with only a few bruises. I can't lose focus, or my wings will be visible. I desperately repeat to myself.
My whole body is exhausted from using so much power, but I must get up.
          I have to.
I must get the debris off that girl and take her to the nurse. I struggle to get up, but eventually, I can crawl on my hands and knees.
My affinity feels drained, but I need to move the debris. Using the strength of a wolf, I push the debris off her.
A loud bell rings out over the Rural Training Facility, signaling the end of the exam. I didn't get enough points to pass. The one I just defeated wasn't worth any points at all. I failed. Father is going to be furious.
I get up to my feet slowly but surely, picking up the girl and sprinting off towards the nurse's office of which I memorized the location before I got here just in case I got injured. I can barely stand, and I am running this girl to the nurse's office. Father is going to be angry, but she needs medical help and I am going to give it to her.

I burst through the door to the nurse's office, kicking it open since my hands are otherwise occupied.
"Hello!? Is anyone here!? I need help over here!" I hear the sound of steps rushing over to us frantically.
"Yes, yes! What do you need, young man?" The old woman lays eyes on the girl I am holding in my arms, and her eyes widen, but the smile does not waver for an instant. "Oh, dear! What happened to her?"
"She was taking the physical part of the entrance exam, and a piece of one of the buildings fell on her leg, trapping her. Another piece of debris must have fallen on her head because when I found her, she was out cold." I explain, the girl's long, dirty-blonde hair is tangled around my arm, her tail tickling my shin.
"Oh, dear. I will help her recover. Please, take her over here." She states, leading me to a room with a bed and a nightstand next to it. It is a small room, but it does the job.
I place the girl on the bed, making sure to move her tail out of the way so it doesn't get smashed underneath her.
"It seems that you are hurt too, young man." The old lady's voice says from behind me. I turn to look at her, her gray hair pulled into a tight bun, eyes kind.
"Oh, no ma'am. I'm fine," I lie. I'm exhausted, but I can't let anyone know that. The amount of power that I used back there was way too much for me to handle. I'm lucky I didn't lose control completely and hurt everyone else around me. I have bruises everywhere and scratches all over my body my muscles screaming for me to sit down and rest, but I can't. I must be strong.
          "Please, call me Iyashi."
"Iyashi. Sorry. I'm fine." I lie—again. She cocks her head at me and grins wider, knowing that I'm lying. Even if she wants to do anything about it, she can't. I know who she is and how her affinity works. She can't heal a conscious person unless she has their consent. She could just knock me out and then heal me, but she's not allowed to do that.
"If you say so, young man," she says, looking away from me, and towards the girl lying down. Iyashi walks over to her and sits down on a chair that is sitting next to the foot of the bed.
"I must thank you for bringing Himari here when you did. Any longer and there would have been permanent damage."
"You are most welcome, Ms. Iyashi." She smiles at me, and I nod back at her, leaving the room to wait for the exam scores in one of the several lobbies.
