"Thank you," you nod your approval to the younglings who had checked in after an hour or so. Group by group, soon everyone had checked in, and relaxation was now allowed to be resumed. You take out a novel that you had concealed in your robes, flipping to the page you had left off on.
After ages of silence, the ice was broken. "So... what is that you're reading?" Obi-Wan fiddles with the flower crown made for him, leaning against a tree while you had chosen a rock.
"A book," turning the next page, you couldn't help but smile at your own comment.
"Very smart," he uses the force, letting your flower crown fall over your eyes. It was his time to smile in amusement, whistling and avoiding eye contact when you glare his way.
"Why do you care?" you shut the book and look pointedly at him, "surely you have better things to do?"
"Simply curious," he chimes in, standing up and nudging the tree so a meiloorun fruit fell into his hand, "hungry?"
"Always the show off, Kenobi," you stand and do the same, a fruit hitting him on the head. Pursing your lips, you hold back a laugh as he groans, "I'm almost sorry, but that was honestly the best thing I've seen all day,"
"You're horrible," he slumps down while you do the same in a more graceful manner.
"Oh, come on, now," you take the fruit and reveal a small blade to cut it for him. "Hopefully this will cure your horrible flesh wound," lifting a slice to his lips, the sweet flavour let a smile form on his face, "better?"
"Much," he sighs, laying against the tree while you scoot closer, using the force to let slices float around. "So the book?"
You swallow your bite and show him the cover, "it's a romance novel," but you were quick to defend, "even if I'm just a temporary Jedi, reading of romance is not breaking the code,"
"Did I say anything?" he holds his hands up.
"It isn't breaking the code," you ensure his understanding.
"I didn't say anything!" he says with wide eyes, hands up higher to emphasis but you stuff a slice of meiloorun into his mouth to shut him up. He wipes his lips, looking to you then the book, "so what is it about?"
Contemplating answering, you do eventually, "it's about two rivals turned lovers knowing better than to fall in love but do regardless,"
"Sounds awful," he raises a brow.
"It's actually quite lovely, thank you very much," you resume your reading and ignore anything he did, including trying to see what was written on the pages, "I thought you said it sounds awful?"
"Doesn't mean I'm not curious," he watches as you sigh, moving to his side and leaning against the tree as well.
His way, you tilt the book. "Can you read from there?"
"Oh, so you won't be reading to me like you used to?" he gives a suggestive look, all sorts of memories similar to another popping up briefly between you two.
"While-" you stop your reading, tilting your head back and seeing Obi-Wan nodding off. "And to think this book was interesting enough," while in the hidden section of the gardens, you both knew you were safe. So you closed the book, placing it to the side while your ears listened to the soft thump of his heart.
"Are you going to fall asleep?" You counter his words.
"Depends," he amusedly takes another slice of fruit, knowing you understood what he was getting at.
You couldn't deny that being in his arms again wasn't a deep desire. Feeling his hands on your waist, head on top of yours, breaths and heartbeats in sync. "Fine," while you sounded reluctant, you were nothing of the sort.
He could hardly believe his luck as you shifted from his side to against his chest. His legs on either side, at first tense, he soon relaxed, pulling you closer. It was a pleasant surprise to realise how much broader he had gotten, how his rough hands still felt welcoming, how he had grown so much yet somehow stayed the same.
"His hands gripped her waist, dancing along the ballroom floor but eyes on anything but the woman he had fallen head over heels for," you read out with a gentle tone, "he knew better than to deny it. The torturous pang in his chest of longing and jealousy, a dangerous mixture no doubt, kept up its relentless strikes when she was with another. However just as his thoughts grew to torment, her hand placed itself on his face, 'look at me,' she asks gently, unknowingly making him melt within,"
"Really? Melt within?" Obi-Wan berates with a playful tone.
"Oh, shut up, literature is meant to be an exaggerated fantasy," you scoff, taking a bite of fruit yourself. "Besides, that isn't far off,"
"So you know what it's like to be this much in love, do you?" He quirks a brow, "I thought it felt like a star in your chest?"
"It can feel like a lot of things," a huff was given, and while he didn't see it, he knew you had rolled your eyes. "Maybe even feeling choked up in your chest, like you're calm and excited to be around them,"
He thought over these words, simply pulling you closer to him with a hum, your head resting on his shoulder. "I think it's a feeling of helplessness," he explains, "not knowing why you act a certain way, feeling confused but almost flowing along with it knowing you'd be alright,"
"Well, love is very confusing," you agreed with him for the first time in a long time, it seemed. Finally in a state of content, you continue to read while he mindlessly rubbed shapes against your rested hand. From your forearm to wrist, his hands glide; these movements unknowingly lulling you to sleep and even relaxing him further. Rushing waterfalls and chirping wildlife, it was a slice of paradise for you both, as if the order didn't exist, as if the war ceased and galaxy at peace.
An obvious, ignorant fantasy.
