Lydia's POV

And here we were.

Me and Carly were together at the roof top of her nightclub, we decided to look at the stars instead of a picnic and it was actually kind of romantic. I looked over to her, seeing that she was very attracted to them as she didn't blink once. "I'm glad we decided to do this instead of a picnic." she finally said, causing me to agree with her. "Yeah. Me too. It's calming." I told her, before she pointed out a star. "What is it?" I asked, "I named that star after you." she replied. I laughed at that, "That's stupid. You can't name stars just like that." I told her until a shooting star appeared across the sky. What the...

"Did you see that?" I asked Carly, "Yeah, that was a shooting star and since we both saw it at the same time, it means that we were meant to be here tonight." she told me. I shook my head. "You just made that up." I told her. "Don't leave me. It's bad luck if you do." Carly said to me, "I wasn't going to leave, my life is full of bad fucking luck anyway so it wouldn't change me." I said back.

Then, it just went quiet for a couple of minutes until Carly placed her hand on top of mine, causing a strange feeling to happen. "That feeling you just had, was our mate bond waiting." she told me. "What's a mate?" I asked her, confused. "And why is it waiting?"

"A mate is another term for lover and it's waiting for you to stop being in denial." she replied. I then thought back to that couple. It was like a zombie apocalypse, watching the grieving woman walk towards my camp and was holding her dead wife. It was obvious that they were married, because they both had the same diamond ring. What if that could happen to me and Carly? "Hey...are you okay? You zoned out for a few minutes there." Carly said, making me snap out of it.  "So, that couple were mates to each other..." I said out loud, "What couple?" she asked me. Time to tell her everything.

A hour later, Carly understood what I went through. "I felt like the real monster, killing the woman like that." I told her with tears in my eyes. "I think you did her a favour, Lydia. If she was in that much agony from the grief. Please don't beat yourself up about it." she told me softly with her hands on my shoulders, consoling me.

"That's why we can't be mates. We can't be..." I began to tell her until she cut me off.

"Truth is, we are mates and we can't change nature. I think it's time we should get home. You'll be sleeping with me for the night. I do not and I repeat, I do not want you sleeping alone, okay?" she asked me, "Okay. That's fair." I replied.

Then, we went back home where she tucked me into her bed and wrapped her arm around me as comfort. Nothing more than that.
