This story touches on a sensitive topic. On June 24, 2022, Roe V. Wade was overturned. I wanted to make a story about one of the horrors that may occur due to this awful heart wrenching decision.
"That'll be $14.25" The lady behind the counter's voice woke me from my trance. As my eyes met with hers, I noticed a twinge of impatience appear across her face and I immediately began rummaging through my purse to find my wallet. I handed her a 10-dollar bill she grabbed it and scowled at me.
"I'm sorry this is all I have at the moment is there any way that I-"
"No. Either pay up or leave." She interrupted before I could finish my sentence motioning towards the door with one hand and giving my $10 back with the other. "Ma'am, I beg you, please." She refused to budge even the slightest bit despite my pleading. My face began to heat up with embarrassment as I took it back and apologized. I dropped my chin to my chest while I rushed out of the store. After a few moments of me practically running to my car I noticed an older lady chasing after me.
"Ma'am hold on one second!" She pleaded I raised a curious eyebrow and turned to face her.
"Here honey." Her voice brought a wave of reassurance over me. She handed me the pregnancy test that I was so desperately trying to purchase just a few moments ago.
"Oh, my goodness. Thank you so much." I tried handing her the $10 dollars, but she refused to accept it.
"Please keep it I insist." She brushed her hand across my back, flashed me a warm smile, then turned and walked away.
"Thank you again ma'am!" I beamed and smiled as a warm breeze blew over me.

I pushed the key into the door and began turning it until the door opened quickly. My husband's eyes were instantly drawn to the bag in my hand, and I watched a huge smile plastered on his face. I knew exactly what he was thinking just by his expression.
"Is it time honey? Is this really happening, FINALLY?!" He practically danced as he asked and led me to the restroom.
"Yes, it's time."
Flashback:
"Ma'am I'm sorry to say that becoming pregnant will be quite difficult for you because of fertility concerns. We can start you on fertility treatment if you'd like."
My husband began to caress my arm as I sat there motionless, and when I looked up at him, we shared a gaze that was filled with empathy.
"Honey, is this something you want to do?" He asked me and I nodded.
I'll explain the financial and medical procedures to you. explained the endocrinologist.

It was difficult for me to contain my emotions since I felt like I was to blame for our inability to conceive.
"Honey take your time in there. I'll be right here when you're ready." When I came out of the bathroom, I noticed him leaning against the wall, holding his arm in the other, and digging his nails into it. His words had helped me to relax a little. He held out his hand as soon as he noticed that I was staring at him. I grabbed it and we walked out the door to the parking lot. We climbed into our car and sat in silence for a while.
"Oh honey, I'm so sorry. If you'd like, we can do the procedure." My husband stated
"I really want to do it, but we don't just have $10,000 laying around; we already struggle to pay our rent."
"Money is not important to me. I'll do all in my power to make sure that we can since we both want to do this. I'll start by applying for more jobs. My husband firmly insisted.
"We will both work hard for this since we are in this together." I smiled as I experienced a small revival of hope.
Flashback ends
Holding each other's hands tightly, we anxiously waited for the test's lines to form.
"Whatever happens will happen and together we can overcome anything." My husband gave me comfort. I was only able to smile and nod due to the immense feeling of nausea that I felt.
"OH MY GOD HONEY LOOK!!" As he gave me the test, my husband shouted. I stood up and started to do a stupid dance after seeing two dark, bright red lines, and just as I was about to stop, my husband joined me.
******************************
Every day after finding out about the pregnancy was unforgettable. My husband was the sweetest always taking care of me at any given chance to. It was now 5 weeks into my pregnancy and my husband, and I were already looking for baby names."Honey for a girl we can name her after your mother!" My husband recommended as he walked with me to the restroom.
"Thats sweet hon, I need to get to the restroom now thoug-" before I could finish my sentence, I vomited all over the floor.
Oh no, I groaned and shook my head. I felt so embarrassed. Fortunately, my husband quickly noticed and started attempting to reassure me that everything was OK.
"Honey, don't worry, I'll clean this up, go use the bathroom," I didn't respond to my husband's remarks since I knew he would be persistent about not letting me help clean up.
I stumbled my way into the restroom and held my stomach my intuition was warning me that something was wrong, but I tried to push my bad thoughts away and stay positive. I was feeling dizzy by the time I got to the toilet, and I felt my heart drop when I found blood in my underwear.
"HONEY!!!!" I screamed and felt the tears well up in my eyes. My husband ran in, and his eyes fell to the floor where I was sitting and sobbing.
"What happened? Is everything ok?" He asked in a panic.
"I need to get to the hospital right now." He scooped me up, grabbed his wallet, our phones, and bolted out the door.
*************************
My husband and I were both experiencing tension and anxiety as we sat in the hospital room; I cracked my knuckles as I watched his knee shake uncontrollably. We went on like this until the doctor came in.
Hello there! As she entered, the ultrasound tech spoke.
My husband and I both simultaneously said, "Hello."
Okay, I'm going to do an ultrasound to locate the embryo, and then we'll go from there.
"Okay." I forced a fake smile
After turning the lights off she began applying gel on my stomach and held the ultrasound sensor in her hand while I laid on the bed. Once it was on my stomach, she carefully shifted it around to see where the embryo was located. I watched her struggle to maintain a poker face, I could already tell at this point that my intuition was correct. Something is wrong.
