BramsSo usually when I make a nonhuman character I go for the throat. Literally. And that's what happened with Brams. But I didn't quite make him a vampire. Nah. I wanted to do a little spin on demons and hollow children. Everyone knows what demons are, and in my view they are beautiful monsters that aren't so beautiful in their true form (which will tie in with Brams VERY well). Hollow children in my view aren't specifically robots in this book. More so they're earthbound creatures that can mimic someone perfectly well. However he's not really one or the other.
My backstory for Bramse East isn't truly developed, but I have a vague idea of the details. He tells Rod one thing. But the only truth is that yes, he came from the woods.
I believe Brams was a creature that lurked in the forest a very long time and just so happened to find that a cabin was nestled in its territory. The young boy that lived with his mother and father there wandered too far from home. There Brams took him, and became him. He then lived with the boy's parents, finding that a little too much human had flushed into his system- and he was trapped in emotions otherwise unfelt by his kind.
The boy's family wasn't stupid. They knew something was very wrong with Brams. So when Brams became the ripe age of eighteen, they burned down the cabin with everyone inside. Why wait until he was of age? Well. Can you imagine trying to kill something that looks like your five year old child?
Brams left the cabin, completely unscathed, but madly depressed. He'd been the cause of their deaths, and had fallen in love with the idea of actually having parents during the years he'd spent with them. Why couldn't they have loved him? Brams is trapped between two worlds. One that feels like home, and one that terrifies him. The monster realm, and the human realm. But he decided to embrace the human realm, his worst fear, because living in the woods as a man is hard- for one. And two, the human side of him absolutely desires companionship.
His need for blood is a vampire trait, but it's also a demonic trait in my eyes because the two are tethered together and are mostly the same if you want to look at it like that. But I'm tweaking his senses to fit more of that hallow child, or even changeling appeal. Even if the most changeling/hollow thing about him is imitation.
"I don't like the drugs but the drugs like me" ~Marylin Manson
How about we get away from the nonhuman zone and come right back down to the straight up homosapien tendency to consume drugs. Alcohol is also a drug, in my opinion. In Dirty Little Gangster there will be a ton of consumption. When I was younger that's all I did, was drink and smoke. I didn't necessarily party because nobody liked to invite me places. I was a loner weirdo, emo, or rather just a basket case in highschool. So to say the least I wasn't popular.
I guess I kind of make a backward attempt at reclaiming the years I spent without friends in a lot of my books. But I think that's why the group dynamic comes out so perfect and flows so nicely. I may not have gone to parties, but I was the alpha of a few friend groups during my time.
In my stories and even roleplays vodka comes up a whole lot. It used to be my number one drink of choice when I consumed a lot of alcohol. But then again I was a fan of beer and whiskey too so those were like very close side bitches. I was a stoner as well. Like hardcore. I couldn't tell someone how much I smoked, but I know it wasn't a gram. So that too is an area of interest. I never got into cigarettes, but I suppose it'll come up because there are a ton of people who smoke cigs for the nicotine high.
I can't let my characters smoke weed and not give them the option to smoke cigs. That's just unfair. I think out of the Death Squad, Gunner, Mayhem, and Randy are the main druggies. While out of Rod's group it has to be Kido. Even if Rod is a drug dealer like Gunner, they're very different people. Rod knows he's a loser, and he's okay with that, so in his case he has nothing to hide in the fog from. Gunner loves the fog because even though he lives a really lucky life, there are thought monsters in his mind attic that he'd much rather drown out than deal with.
Even so. Just because you're a drug dealer doesn't mean you've gotta be an over the wall druggie, is my point. I know that it's very cliche for the group's self harmer to do a lot of drinking and smoking, but honestly that's my experience. I didn't know a lot of druggie self harmers for say, but that might be a lie now that I think about it. They have their own aspects, drug abuse and self harm. But they're around the same territory in my world. I was a self harmer and someone who did plenty of drink/smoke myself a few years back so to make a character that fits in my shoes like that is pretty special and a lot like self reflection.
Kido-kun is really obnoxious, he's a ball of energy and rather allergic to the serious things in life, much like Gunner. Though, Gunner is a laid back type of spaz that only makes a dick of himself when challenged. Kido can be set off at any time, and mostly by July, who acts as his guardian. She's more motherly to Kido than anyone else in the group because Kido is a foster baby and is usually ignored most of the time by his adoptive family even though they raised him.
He always has his eye on her in return, like the other two do. But more intensely so because July provides so much for him emotionally and materially. Kido's use of weed and alcohol usually controls his temper during the worst of times, as he uses for fun, during hang out times, and when he's upset. Much like I did.
Randy, as I explained in a roleplay, doesn't use often because of his jobs and ranch duties. He often saves up everything he gets from different people and either distributes it or uses it all at once. Meanwhile Gunner gets his high on in moderation and usually isn't sober for a better part of the day. Mayhem is the worst about it, as a major alcoholic with a really horny, angry, and irresponsible wavelength during his drunken states.
I try to mix it up as best I can because these are all different people with different mindsets and different lifestyles even though they all share the same town.
I do wonder if my book is likeable though. Nobody's really voted on it, but there are reads so I know someone's looking at it. I figure that if I want more followers and a larger audience I should make a roleplay book but man is that some work and dedication.
I really don't have the time to keep up with something like that when I have a few roleplays going on already, a few books to write, and these here thoughts to sort through. I mean I need to bang out Dirty Little Gangster chapters, right? The story must go on. So when I do finally make a character book, there will be content to actually read. So anyway. I tried to keep my thoughts in order on this one. Tried to make it a little longer too. Hopefully the insight is appreciated.
