chapter 4 - teaching lessons

i was going to learn new things from lily, she was gonna show me to be better in animal club. the first thing she taught me was to volunteer at a animal shelter. she took me to a animal shelter "so here we take care of all the animals" lily said "a- ama- amazing" james said someone walked up to us "lily i wasnt expecting you to be here" "hey bob, i brought a volunteer today" lily said bob, lily told me he owns this shelter "awesome you guys can get started by walking the dogs its there walking time good luck" bob said lily got out the dogs she put there collars and leashes and gave me the leash to walk them. we went outside and started walking them "i- n- never d- do- done t- this b- before" james said "trust me you"ll get use to it" lily said the dogs started walking a  little faster then they ran and pulled me with the leash "james!" lily said lily ran after me i kept on running they didnt stop until i fell into these boxes of cakes lily saw "james are you alright?" lily said i got up a little i was splatted with cake the dogs started licking my face from all the cake i had on me lily giggled i actually made her laugh a little when i looked into her eyes she was smiling i smiled back i got up, i tried to hug lily but she was walking away smiling because i still had cake splatted on me i chased after her while she was walking away she smiled and laugh so did i, she was having a lovely moment i just wanted to make her happy. as days pass by she taught me to go on events, talking better in presentations which i did one "he- hel- helping a- animals at t- the p- pet shel- shelter p- perfect fo- for an- animals t- to ha- have ho- homes" james said everyone was agreeing with me they liked it. lilys friends also started to teach me a lot of new things. after school we were passing out flyers for the next event it was called animal day the day where everyone could adopt animals, people were very interested "pe- people i- intre- interested" james said "i cant believe im saying this but i agree with james" john said "we havent had students took our flyers in a year" sai said "how do you do it james" claire said "i- i ha- have a goo- good c- coach" james said i looked at lily she smiled so did her friends, brandon passed by us while he was talking with his friends then he saw how happy i was helping passing out flyers with lily and her friends he was so confused that people were liking me. after all that from a long time i was at lilys house we were in the kitchen, lily and i were making the schedules  for all the events we had "so tomorrow is animal day we are going to-" lily said lily got interrupted by frank and her mom they were yelling throwing things, lily stood quite she kept moving and closing her mouth but she continued to talk "as i was saying we are going to wear some t- shirts that has our names on it for tomor-" lily said she got interrupted again this time it was horrible. this kitchen is like a room so she slammed the door she looked a little serious but talked again like nothing happen. "as i was saying that-" lily said this time lilys mom open the door and walked in "sweetie ill be back im going uh whos this" lilys mom said "its a friend from animal club hes helping me with these events" lily said "hhi" james said "uh ill be back just dont do anything" lilys mom said "mom its james" lily said "james, james baldwin?" lilys mom said "ni- nice see- seeing y- you ag- again ms w- walker" james said "um i dont go by that last name anymore" lilys mom said i was a little confused "lily im leaving lock the door" lilys mom said "what you didnt say you were leaving" lily said "yes i am ill be back a little late again" lilys mom said "but mom" lily said "lets go i dont have all day!" frank said frank was outside waiting for lilys mom "i have to go" lilys mom said she left we saw them outside fighting again they got in the car and left lilys mom wont be home for a while it wasnt the first time that lilys mom would just leave her daughter again like that. lily didnt know what to do anymore she was a little sad i can see the pain in her eyes the pain that she went through a lot with her mom and frank i didnt want to see her sad i just wanted to make her laugh again but "sa- say tr- truth" james said "what" lily said "nno m- more hi- hiding li- lily" james said lily didnt know what to say but it was time for her to say the truth. "my parents divorce 3 years ago then frank came a long they always fight 24/7 my mom would always come home late or not even come home at all but my parents it was way worst but its no big deal im use to it" lily said "i un- under- stand i ca- care" james said i grabbed lilys hand she looked at me she started to see me different a good different. lily slowly started to smile again, but she let go her hand out of mine "ok were all set for tomorrow" lily said the next day was animal day at the pet shelter everyone from animal club were there to help "get your dogs" john said "and cats" sai said "guys its not a bake sell" claire said "right" sai said lily came "lily your idea of yours was a great idea" john said "people are actually adopting" sai said "these animals are gonna have great homes" claire said "and more to come, have you guys seen james?" lily said "uh yea hes inside with the other animals" john said "ok ill be back" lily said lily went to find me while i was looking at the pets "be- beau- ti- ful an- animals" james said "exuse me can i get that pet please" kid said "oh o- ok" james said i got a dog out from his cage it started licking my face again i was laughing the kid smiled i gave it to the kid it started licking the kid she smiled and laughed so did i "it ll- likes yo- you" james said "it really does thank you" kid said the kid left, then lily came "well it looks like you got your first customer" lily said "i d- did?" james said "yup now come on we have a lot of pets people would love to adopt" lily said we went outside a lot of people were adopting, a lot of animals were gonna get new homes "ne- new fam- ily" james said i got excited "your right james a lot of animals are getting new homes" john said "just imagine we might be the topest club in our school" sai said "and our reputation will be great for this" claire said "i guess we really did a good job" lily said we were doing so great until alex and his friends came "well well james i see you got new friends" alex said "people are finally noticing you for once in your life" nate said "who what of thought you having friends you really have funny jokes come on make me laugh again" alex said "real mature alex" lily said " what do you guys want" claire said "dont you guys have something better to do" sai said brandon was staying quite the whole time so strange "dont you know how he is" nate said "i cant believe you let him join animal club" alex said "if your here for a fight game on but only with me" lily said "look at him hes a freak" alex said alex pushed me to the floor but lily surprisingly pushed alex so hard to the floor "so what if hes a freak because im one to now leave before ill hurt you more" lily said alex was mad "whatever come on guys" alex said they left but brandon kept looking at me in a calm serious way but left "james you good" john said they help me get up "fre- freak is un- unique" james said "ok im starting to like this kid" sai said "james, you sure your alright" lily said "i- im al- always ok whe- when yo- you g- guy ar- are ar- around" james said lily smiled, after animal day we were cleaning up "you did a good job today james" lily said "i- i- d- did i- d- did d- did!" james said i got excited again instead of lily getting annoyed she giggled i guess shes starting to change after all. after, lily went to go visit her dad they had dinner "so hows that animal club going of yours" mr walker said "its pretty great actually" lily said "did you get any new members yet" mr walker said "actually james join" lily said "james, james baldwin? i was wondering how that kid is doing after his disabilities, hes gone through so much" mr walker said "what how do you know that" lily said "everyone knew that didnt you know he had disabilities" mr walker said that was the first time lily found out about my disabilities "uh no.. i didnt.." lily said "are you two close again" mr walker said "what no" lily said "lily i know you, you guys were the best of friends when you were kids" mr walker said "right.." lily said lily was starting to have a lot of thoughts that she never thought she would have.
