THE two of them flew through space in silence, only the dull hum of the ship and the occasional click of buttons breaking it.There was a beeping that averted Junie's attention to Din, who leaned forward and clicked a button, revealing a transmission from Greef Karga.
"Mando's. I've received your transmission. Wonderful news. Upon your return deliver the quarry directly to the client. I have no idea if he wants to eat it or hang it on his wall, but he's very antsy. Safe passage. You know where to find me."
The transmission ended, and noise from Din's right drew both of the Mandalorians' attention. The child had taken the tiny ball from the lever that Junie often did and had it in its mouth.
"That's not a toy." Din scolded, gently taking the ball from its tiny hands.
Junie watched their interaction with curious eyes. Din grabbed the back of the child's clothing, lifting it like a cat and plopping it back into its cot.
He turned to stare at it for a second, before lowering the ship down towards Nevarro. Junie glanced back at the dejected-looking child, her heart clenching.
She didn't know what these people were going to do with it. What if they hurt it? She couldn't ask questions though, it was against The Guild's guidelines.
"I think you should stay here," Din turned to her in his seat, "you can barely walk."
He did have a point, but she desperately wanted to go for a better reason. She wanted to see the child off, take a bath and get a new helmet.
"I can still walk more or less," Junie tried to bargain. "Look."
She took a deep breath, standing up. With the help of her staff, she managed to walk across the cockpit and towards the ladder with only some difficulty.
Din sighed, not liking the idea but allowing it. Junie internally fist-bumped herself, climbing down the ladder and opening the hatch.
Din followed soon after, the child trailing behind him in its hovering pram. The three exited the ship, making their way slower than usual towards the town.
It eerily felt like everyone was watching the kid as Junie and Din made their way back to the client. They arrived in front of the door, and Din knocked on it.
The robotic eye that had smacked Junie in the head came out of the wall again and spoke some random language. Junie crossed her arms at the sight of it, while Din bit back a laugh and withdrew the card from his pocket, showing it to the droid, who scanned it and opened the door for them.
The child looked inquisitively onward as two stormtroopers walked out, staring at the three before gesturing inside. Junie tried to hide her limp as they walked in.
She looked around warily, not liking being back. One of the stormtroopers took hold of the hovering pram harshly, and Junie clenched her jaw.
"Easy with that." Din stepped unconsciously closer to the kid.
"You take it easy." The stormtrooper snapped back.
Junie shook her head at the response, holding in nervous laughter. They entered the room where the old man from before was, who stood and started repeatedly saying, "yes," as they walked closer to him.
He had a tracking fob in his hand, which beeped faster and faster as it got closer to the kid.
The Doctor from before scanned The Child, and said, "very healthy."
"Your reputations were not unwarranted." The old man smiled.
"How many fobs did you give out?" Din questioned.
