( too young to die by agent orange )
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY DARCY," people spoke as she gently pushed passed them in the crowd to get to Kaia. She smiled and nodded, giving them quiet 'thank yous' they very likely couldn't hear over the music.

She changed in the diner bathroom. Taking off that tacky yellow waitress outfit, and putting on a white slip dress instead, and her favorite vintage red boots.

Darcy was very particular about the way she was dressed, more importantly how she was perceived. It wasn't a thing of vanity, more so the expectation to uphold a certain look that she'd stuck to. She liked feeling pretty, and that's all there was to it.

She could see the twins at the very front row, which felt unfair considering how tall Dakota was. But it's not like most people were here to actually see whatever random band was playing that night, it was really just an excuse to drink and smoke with each other.

As Darcy pushed her way up to the front she gently yanked a piece of Dakota's long hair to get his attention. He turned around, confusion turning into a happy smile. "She's here!" He says excitedly, over the music.

Kaia turns around, wrapping her arms around Darcy for a quick hug. "Dude, I'm sorry but if I have to stand here any longer and listen to this I'm gonna start getting mean." She says between quiet laughs.

"What, why?" Darcy says, glancing up from Kaia to the stage.

Some unknown punk band manned the stage, all four of them looking like they just came out of an 80s hair band, but none of them looked over twenty five. And this might've been appealing to someone else, but Kaia was very particular about the music she enjoyed- and this was very much not her thing.

"Well at least he's hot." Darcy yells over the screeching music, gesturing towards the guitarist.

"Yeah, yeah, they were all hot until they started playing." Kaia says, "Did you bring anything to drink?"

Darcy shook her head no.

"Let's go find Cameron, I'm sure he has something." Kaia says, then looks up at her brother who was thoroughly enjoying the show and completely unaware of his surroundings. "Just leave him." She nods.

Darcy held onto Kaia's hand as she found herself pushing out of the crowd once again, hearing more and more 'happy birthdays' from her classmates, which didn't go unappreciated.

She felt her eyes draw up towards the moon, the purple tint much more saturated than earlier. To a point where it almost hurt to look at, like it was giving off so much light that Daisy felt she needed to squint.
