I walked down the road, on the journey to Oakland High. This was the place where I would spend most of my days, Earlier that morning, I used my Abilities to coax Mrs Grotter, the lady I was staying with, to catch me a pig from her farm. Pigs have always been my favourite source of food. Maybe this is because my favourite food when I was human was bacon. But, to tell the truth, who doesn't like bacon? On my walk, I surveyed what I thought to be my new home for the few years and smiled; it was quaint and pretty, and definitely something I could get used to.

When I got down to the school, I glided into the Headmasters office.

"Why hello there! I don't recognise you, are you a student here?" He said smiling a bright smile, with a confused look in his eye.

"No, but I'd love to be! I'm new here, living with my grandmother in the neighbouring town, and this school looks much better than the one there" I smiled, and raised my charm level to maximum. "So what do you reckon? Can I start here?"

The headmaster looked doubtful, and shook his head, "I would need your Grandmother to come and talk to me first." he replied sadly.

I used my Abilities "Are you sure about that? I think you could make an exception and let me in now..." My eyes drove into his and his eyes were unable to look anywhere else but into mine. His head slowly nodded and whispered uncontrollably, "of course". I smiled sweetly and skipped away.

All Vampires have Abilities, we can persuade humans to do things agaisnt their will, feel humans feelings, assess any species aura, and use them to get out of sticky sitations. More powerful and older Vampires can use them to shapeshift, use telekinisis, have  premonitions, weather control, and even the Council of Elders, the original 4 Vampires, over 1000 years old each, can use them on the weaker parts of the species. Since I only feed on animals, the weakest blood, I can only persuade and mind control, but some of the vampires I have met on my travels have shown me many magnificant things. I really want to be able to do all the things I've been shown, but I don't want to feed on innocent humans. Also there are sometimes special Abilities only a select few Vampires aquire. They usually begin to appear after 25 years of being a Vampire, so I have a while until I see if I have any.

I waltz into the school playground, wearing all the correct uniform I prevously stole from the supply cupboard, behind the medical room. The cold air of January was nothing to me, as a Vampire. Any weather didn't affect me because I was literally dead. To everyone else, though, it was a freezing 6 degrees. All the kids huddled around each other, like penguins.

I received some strange looks as I strolled though the playground, unaffected by the cold. As a Vampire, I could also tell what people were feeling towards me and other things. Expectingly , all the feelings towards me were jealousy, lust, envy or anything like that. One boy, I noticed, wasn't feeling anything towards me as I walked past his line of sight. This was strange for a human as they always emitted a hint of feeling, at all times. This boy was just leaning casually against a tree and seemed to be ignoring everyone.

His aura was barely visable, but from what I could see of it, it seemed it was brown. It was a sign of a sleeping or very relaxed human. Well, he clearly wasn't asleep because his eyes were blinking, almost as if on auto pilot. I blinked, only just then realising I hadn't in a long while. Vampires also don't need to blink, but humans do, surprisingly. I walked away from this strange human and into the main school building.

I got into my math class, and was greeted by my new teacher, Mrs. Eron. She introduced me to the class.

"Listen up class, we have a new student--" she paused to take my name "Sophie, is her name. Please be kind and welcoming. It is difficult to bee a new student, especially a third of the way into a school year. Please sit where there is room, Sophie."

The place available to me was by the peculiar human. Matthew-Eli Slore, I found out.

"Hello," I whispered to him, stretching out my brain to reach his. I assessed his feelings and aura. None had changed. "as you heard I'm Sophie."

"Shush! I trying to listen!" he mouthed to me. His aura sent out a flash of red, showing his anger and loss of control. I didn't speak anymore, dazed by the sudden ferocious burst of Matthew's aura.

I walked out of the classroom, still as dazed. I spent the day in my thoughts, not paying any attention to the repeat of lessons I've heard three times in my life already. I thought on the way home and all throughout the night. This was a puzzle, I thought to myself, a very difficult puzzle. How could a human have that much impact on me, or that much control over their feelings and aura? Unless he was trained, and that would mean he knew about the whole world of Werewolves, Vampires and Witches, and probably knew about me, too. Matthew was a very peculiar boy, indeed.
