~Akshara~

"It's 20 minutes to closing time."

Abhimanyu was still sitting at the exact same spot now as he had when they had first started their conversation. Except now, three hours later, the only difference was that Abhimanyu looked pretty wasted for a man his size.

"Oh, then I guess I'll have one more, to end the night."

"I'm sorry, I'm cutting you off man. Plus, I already cleaned up and am ready to close for the night."

"Oh."

"Yeah."

"I have yet to pay..."

"It's okay, we have your credit card on file from dinner earlier, I already charged it to that."

I made a mental note to myself to hand Abhimanyu the receipt once he was ready to leave.

"I don't want to go home."

Okay, that statement caught me by surprise.

"Why not?"

I was unsure as to why I was prying about this man's life, but it felt as though he could use a friend. Or even just a set of ears.

"It's going to be so lonely."

Any sane person would have just nodded their head and let the conversation die out. I was starting to think I was not a very sane person. But then again, being a Music Therapy major with minor in Psychology would do that to you.

"Why? Is your Lady Friend from earlier not going to be waiting for you at home?"

"I don't know. I should be mad at her. And not want her back. But I do."

"You should do what you feel is right."

I mean, that was the right thing to say. Right? Rather than get more involved in his life.

"I don't know what the right thing to do is though."

And I was back to square one. He wasn't going to let go of the topic.

"What did she do? What happened between you guys?"

"She cheated on me."

"Oh, okay..."

"Yeah. With my best friend."

Ouch. That must have hurt. On the one hand, he dodged a bullet there and found out how loyal his girlfriend and best friend were to go behind his back and indulge in an affair, but on the other hand, she really did feel for the dude. He lost two important people in his life on the same day.

"I'm sorry to hear that."

He gave a little half-hearted laugh. "Me too."

"But...on the bright side, you found out before it was too late?"

"We had been together for 3 years."

And there it was. I had to go overstating the things in my mind and end up messing up. Again. I mean was there a medal or something for the most fork-ups in a single conversation? If so, I would surely like to put my name in the nominee pool.

"But I meant...at least you guys hadn't been engaged or something right?"

Okay, two points for a good backtrack. Not bad!

"I was planning on proposing to her. Today."

Damnit! Negative 100 for timing.

"Okay, I really got to ask. Is today some special occasion or are you generally always the bearer of bad news?"
