It has officially been one week since I've talked to Mark.
I just couldn't bring myself to talk to him again.
I ran through the door of the library, carrying a scolding cup of coffee in one hand, and my keys in the other. Both Luna and Jack glared at me.
"Sorry I'm late!" I panted, trying to catch my breath, "...Again."
"It's no surprise anymore at this point, {Y/N}," Jack was pressing the buttons on the machine that helped to scan library books in front of him.
"Well, you look nice!" Said Luna with a smile. I glanced down at myself, looking at my outfit. I was wearing a white tank crop top, with ripped baggy overalls. My hair was curled up into two buns near the side of my head.
"Thanks," I sipped my coffee carefully as I walked over to the rack where my apron hung. I took it off the rack and started to tie it onto myself. I adjusted my name tag, in which I delicately decorated using different colored Sharpies and multiple packets of Lisa Frank stickers. I grabbed a couple of books from the counter, still holding my coffee in my hand. I rushed to one of the shelves then silently took another sip of my coffee.
"So, have you heard anything from Mark lately?" I heard Luna say. I quickly lowered the cup from my lips, almost spewing out coffee from my mouth. I turned my head to look at her.
"Uh...No," I said, placing the cup of coffee on the ground before placing books on the bookshelf.
"No?" questioned Luna, "I thought you said that you had his number?"
"I do, but we haven't talked since-"
"Wait, wait, wait..." she held up her hands halfway, her eyebrows slanted downwards, "You mean to tell me that you two haven't talked since you went on that date?"
"It wasn't a date, Luna," I said, annoyed, "and yes, we haven't talked since then."
"Oh, c'mon," she sighed, "That was totally a date."
"No, it was not!" I shoved a book onto one shelf and picked up my coffee from the ground.
"Yeah, yeah, whatever," Luna waved her hand up and down, "But the real question is... Did you say yes?"
"Yes to what?" I walked over to the counter, taking a sip of my coffee.
"His offer!" Whined Luna, "The dance competition!"
"No," my lips smacked as I sat down the cup, "But I do know my answer..."
"It's yes, right?" Luna crossed her arms. I gave her a look. Her face fell. "You're going to say yes, are you?"
"Luna," I sighed, "...I quit dancing."
She sighed, "...I know."
"So, I'm going to tell him no," I shook my head slightly, taking another sip.
"I think you should say yes," interrupting Jack. I slowly turned my head to face him.
"Any why do you say that, Jack?" I raised my eyebrows slightly.
He shrugged, "I don't know. What I do know is that you're an amazing dancer... And skipping out on this opportunity is a stupid idea."
"Sound familiar?" Said Luna.
"Wait, wait," I placed my hand over Luna's face, still looking at Jack, "Why is it a stupid idea?"
"Because I know what you are capable of," Jack sighed, "...and I'm just tired of hearing about this every... single... day I come into work."
I chuckled, as Luna lowered my hand from her face.
"So, just say yes..." sighed Jack, "...please."
"Yeah... sure," I took another sip of coffee, then looked back at Luna. Her jaw was dropped and her arms were crossed. I shrugged, then lowered my coffee cup from my lips. I heard the door bell ring as someone walked through. Luna glanced her head in that direction as a smile crept upon her face.
"Well, speak of the devil..." she mumbled, still crossing her arms. I quickly turned around. Fluffy hair and round glasses was all that I saw.
Mark.
My eyes widened, "Eep! Hide me!" I whisper-yelled as I dropped to the floor, hiding myself with the counter.
"Girl, stand up!" Luna grabbed my arm trying to bring me to my feet again. I went limp, trying my hardest to not stand. Once Mark made his way over to the counter, he stopped suddenly, raising one eyebrow slightly.
"{Y/N}?" He questioned. I remained silent. I looked up at Luna, as she looked down at me. A wide smirk grew across her face, like she had just thought of the most amazing idea ever.
"Yeah, she's not here," she made it very obvious that she was lying.
"Oh, really?" Mark crossed his arms, going with the bit. Even though I wasn't looking at him, I could feel him looking straight at me.
"Yep," Luna rested her elbows on the counter, "Oh, you know what? She asked me to tell you something." I gave her the most deadliest glare as I began to tug on her apron.
"What did she want to tell me?" He smiled a little.
"...That she has agreed to do the dance competition with you," she grinned widely. My mouth gaped open. Mark chuckled.
"Well, that's amazing," he glanced down at the floor, "And could you tell her that I'll pick her up from here tomorrow to begin practice?"
"I sure will," Luna laughed.
"Alright," Mark laughed, "Since she's not here...I'll just leave..." he began to walk away slowly. I tilted my head upwards to look at him, but we ended up locking eyes for a split second. I perked my head down quickly. He snickered, then began to walk out the door once more. Once he left, I quickly popped up from behind the counter.
"What?" Luna laughed, as I continued to give her the death glare. I then proceeded to swat her on the arm.
"What?!" She bursted, "I was doing you a favor!"
"That I did not want to do!" I said angrily.
Luna turned around to rest her arms back on the counter, "Oh, don't get mad at me!...You'll thank me later."
