There wasn't any signs of life so I was either really early or really late. Grey wandered in and a smile broke out on my face as soon as I saw his green hair pop through the door.
"Am I super early or was I lucky enough to miss the whole damn auction?" His head snapped up at the sound of my voice and in under three seconds I was tackled in a hug. I shoved Grey off and fixed my dress and hair, gigging slightly.
"You, my dear, need to learn to hide better. And only you would get here early, Miss Violet." He chuckled and shook his head. Grey was one of the few immortals who didn't approve of the slave system and auctions, so he did everything he could to make it slightly less awful for us. He was also the only immortal who wanted me to escape for good. Grey has helped me time and time again but I always got caught, much to his dismay. We both stood up and I looked down.
"Hey Grey, I have a question." He pulled me into a gentle embrace at the sound of my shaking voice.
"What is it honey-pie?" Grey asked while rubbing soothing circles on my back. I looked up at him, tears threatening to spill over.
"What happens if my new master is worse than Damien? I don't think I can handle that. What if I finally break and become one of those emotionless slaves who's lost the will to keep going? I don't want to be like them!" By now I was hysterical and almost hyperventilating. I was clinging to Grey's shirt as if my life depended on it. I felt safe with him, like when we stopped hugging I would be with my family in the other realms, finally free from this hell. Other slaves began to get escorted in so Grey and I separated from our embrace and I went and sat in front of a vanity to make sure my makeup wasn't smudged. Grey walked up behind me and gave me a shoulder massage while I continued my small rant.
"Grey, what if you bought me and we ran away together? I would be free, we could start fresh somewhere. Doesn't that sound amazing? Grey pecked me on the shoulder and pulled back.
"You know that I signed a contract saying I would never buy another slave after I killed so many already. The only way that could work is if my friend bought you and you went with him. I'm stuck here until I decide to start drinking blood again. I really don't want to throw all those months of locking myself away to avoid snapping and going on a killing spree. I have a friend who is just like me, He doesn't torture or drink or any of that. I trust him and you can too. Luckily you are towards the end of this auctions so I have time to call him and ask him to do this for me." I whipped around, hope twinkling in my eyes.
"Do you really mean it? I could get out of here forever?" I said excitedly, jumping up to hug him. Grey shushed me and shook his head, signaling me to keep quiet about it. I nodded and went to sit in my chair. I don't mean I was sitting in a chair earlier I mean this is the chair I always sat in when I get caught. Hopefully this would be the last time. One by one girls were called out and the number got higher and higher. Girls were coming back crying and every time, I would comfort them, saying that no one would be as bad as those I had ended up with. Of course I didn't say anything about how I would always kill and run before I came back. As far as they knew I just ran and those masters started going to a different auction house. Finally my name was called and I stood up and walked out with my head held high. The auctioneer smirked menacingly and turned to the bidders.
"Shall we start the bidding at $50,000? " The numbers went up so high I was taken by surprise anyone wanted me that bad. I didn't let it show and instead listened to the many voices shouting rising numbers. One voice rang out strong and clear and whomever it was, He was determined to have me and I began to wonder if it was Grey's friend.
"SOLD!!! to the fellow in the back with the scary tattoos. I'm just kidding about the tattoos, they're really cool." The auctioneer attempted to crack a joke and I just rolled my eyes while being pulled back into the green room to await pick up. When I walked back in Grey was there with a ghost of a smile on his face. I shot him a questioning look and he walked over.
"My friend did it and here's the plan. When he comes in here he's going to grab you by the hair and pull you out to his car, then he's going to throw you in the back seat. Look scared for your life because then no one will know any of our plan. He's going to take you to his apartment and in four days you two will take a plane to london. In those four days you will dye you hair and get colored contacts. I'll meet you as soon as I can, but I'll be in touch." Grey pulled me in for a kiss and so many emotions ran through my body I didn't know how to react. He pulled away and whispered how much I was sold for and a meaningful good luck. He walked away and not even a minute later I was told my new master was there to pick me up. I willed myself to look terrified and my new master strut in and was pointed in my direction.
