We had arrived at the place where we would be playing volleyball and I couldn't shake off the feeling that I felt sick. Had I eaten something bad? I put my hand on my forehead and, oh no, I was super warm. Like, burning up warm. Okay, it's probably just a fever, I can do this. I knew how much playing with Belly would mean for her so I was gonna try. I was always so stubborn when it came to being sick. I would always try to act like I wasn't sick, when in reality I was dying on the inside.
"Good afternoon! I'm Susannah Fisher chair of the club's community service board, and I am delighted to welcome you forward to Play It Forward!" Susannah yells excitedly into the microphone she's holding. I clap and cheer for her as everyone else is doing.
"You know, as my mother used to say, if you're lucky enough to be at the beach, you're lucky enough. And we are very fortunate indeed, which is why, in the spirit of fun and friendly competition it is time to open our hearts and our wallets and give back to those who may not be as fortunate. We have teams raising money for homelessness, women's shelters, environmental causes, and many more. And Play It Forward will match pledges for the winner of the tournament!" She says and everyone cheers. "Pledge tables still open, so please donate generously. And with that, I say let the games begin!" I was standing next to Belly and Conrad who had come up to us in the middle of Susannah's speech. He seemed extra cheerful today, the complete opposite to how he's been acting all summer.
