CHAPTER ❁ ONE
Welcome BackHawkins, Indiana. A small town populated by only a few thousand, a home to many.
Audrey had been born and raised in Hawkins, but moved out when she was just thirteen years old. Six years later she chose to return. If she remembered correctly, the town hadn't changed much. There were many new faces but also some familiar ones.
Hawkins was a town with a low crime rate, fortunately. However when Audrey returned everything seemed to be different. Someone had explained to her that ever since some kid named Will Byler went missing, the town had changed. The name rang a bell inside of her head, chiming as if trying to get her to remember. Byler.
Byler sounded awfully familiar but for some reason she just couldn't remember who it belonged to. Six whole years had went by and Audrey definitely did not have a good memory, nor was she ever planning on coming back so she practically forced any memory from Hawkins to the back of her head after she left.
She was currently walking around the streets, nothing to do and nowhere to go. That was when she remembered.
Will Byers. Jonathan Byers. How could she have forgotten?
Her and Jonathan weren't exactly friends but they spoke a few times in middle school and he wasn't what people said he was. She had no idea if he was still here and she wasn't planning on finding out.
She had absolutely no idea Jonathan Byers' brother went missing a few years ago, but honestly it was none of her business now. She also had no interest in going to him and speaking to him, the kid was found anyway.
The people in this town were nosy. Very nosy. This wasn't good for anyone; especially for a kid that mysteriously goes missing and comes back out of nowhere.
The whole town had questions, and no one could blame them. Apparently they had found his corpse yet somehow he was still alive. Everything had changed. Who would try to make someone appear as dead while they were alive?
There was a mystery to solve, and Audrey had a shit ton of questions left unanswered.
Audrey's 'tour' around Hawkins came to a stop when she was in front of Starcourt Mall; a place she would often go to as a kid.
The place seemed to have gotten smaller, or maybe she had just gotten bigger. But there was something different about it. Audrey's head told her to leave, but she ignored it and went in.
The mall was packed. There were people in every corner, new shops and new decoration littered everywhere.
Audrey's feet dragged her across the mall, her eyes wandering around the place as she looked for somewhere to go. She was definitely not ready to go home yet.
An unfamiliar blue and yellow sign that read 'Scoops Ahoy' immediately caught Audrey's interest. The people pouring out through the doors of the small shop with ice cream in their hands was all she needed to know what they were selling.
Taking in a deep breath, she strolled towards the mall and through the entrance of Scoops Ahoy, hoping that the ice creams were cheap.
